Duties:

The nurse's primary responsibilities include distributing medications, checking vitals, assessing illness, checking blood sugar, and conducting medical reviews and making educational recommendations for special education students. In addition, the nurse will provide all levels of medical care to students, including those with severe and profound disabilities including feeding tubes. Provide specific IEP identified assistance to students. Provide appropriate training to staff. Complete IEP paperwork as appropriate to position as School Nurse. Travel to assist students in other buildings within the District is required.

Qualifications:

The qualified individual is an RN (with a BA in nursing or education or a related field) who holds an Illinois license in school nursing. Alternatively, it may be an RN that has met one of two other options for authorization to complete medical reviews: an RN who has completed a special education web course offered by ISBE, or an RN that has passed the School Nurse Content Exam offered by the Illinois Licensure Testing System. -Vision and Hearing Screening certification -Current in first aide, CPR, and AED use
