Minimum 6 months Paraprofessional or Special Education experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make an immediate and meaningful impact supporting a medically fragile student in a dedicated one-on-one setting. This contract opportunity is ideal for a compassionate, experienced paraprofessional who thrives in close collaboration with both students and staff. The position begins with a 9-week trial period (from August 24th to October 23rd), with the intention to extend through the entire school year if it’s a great fit. Enjoy a consistent 32-hour workweek, located conveniently near Petersburg, VA.
Essential Qualifications:
- Valid Virginia paraprofessional license or an Associate’s Degree or higher—please include documentation with your application
- Previous experience working with medically fragile students, with strong familiarity with seizure protocols, wheelchair transfers, and toileting assistance
- Ability to remain calm and proactive while responding to complex needs or medical events
- A record of reliability and commitment within educational settings
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for interaction with educational teams and families
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one assistance to a student with significant medical needs on a daily basis
- Support the student throughout the school day, including medical, mobility, and hygiene-related tasks
- Monitor and respond promptly to any medical incidents, such as seizures, in accordance with established care plans
- Foster a safe, nurturing environment to enhance learning and participation
- Maintain clear, daily communication with teachers, nurses, and caregivers to coordinate care
