The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to assigned patients from newborn to geriatric populations according to the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and in compliance with the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, functions independently within established department policies and goals, refers problems to the nurse manager or appropriate supervisor, and directs and or assists with the activities of licensed practical nurses and ancillary nursing personnel.

Job Function

• Shift & Hours: 3x12 NIGHTS
  

• Collects relevant age- and specialty-specific health data during patient assessments and analyzes the data to determine accurate nursing diagnoses.

• Identifies individualized patient outcomes and develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive plan of care prescribing necessary nursing interventions.

• Provides direct nursing care to assigned patients, including the safe administration of prescribed medications and intravenous solutions.

• Evaluates and documents patient progress in the medical record and promptly reports significant changes in patient condition to physicians.

• Counsels, educates, and involves patients and families in the care plan; assists them in coping with illness-related stress and provides compassionate support to dying patients.

• Collaborates safely and ethically with patients, families, and healthcare teams to provide humane, cost-effective, and healing care.

• Systematically evaluates the effectiveness of nursing practice, utilizes LEAN strategies for process improvement, and applies clinical inquiry and research to daily care.

• Performs all clinical responsibilities independently or with minimal supervision, and assumes additional administrative duties in the absence of the nurse manager if required.

Job Requirements:

• Experience working on a 23-bed Medical-Surgical / Telemetry unit.

• Telemetry Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation is required.

• Soft Skills & Adaptability:

  • Ability to think logically, problem-solve, and maintain a calm demeanor under tense, fast-paced, or difficult clinical situations.

  • Ability to work smoothly through frequent interruptions, handle unique scenarios with limited standardization, and manage difficult patient behaviors effectively.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with peers and provide constructive feedback.

• Will accept a beginning practitioner who meets core competency standards.

• A Nursing Diploma, an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN), or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

• Current American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers.

• Active ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.

• Prior experience utilizing Meditech electronic health record software systems is preferred.
