Position Overview


We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Software Engineer to support a shipyard-focused program. This role will involve developing and enhancing custom software solutions, analytics tools, and system integrations that support maintenance operations, performance tracking, and IT system management.


The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in software development, experience working within integrated IT environments-including Navy or defense-related systems-and the ability to contribute to data-driven applications and reporting platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance software applications supporting operational and IT system requirements.
• Write, test, debug, and optimize code throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Develop custom scripts, queries, macros, and analytics tools to support performance tracking and reporting.
• Contribute to the development, maintenance, and sustainment of enterprise IT software solutions.
• Support system deployment activities, including testing and release evaluations.
• Develop applications supporting dashboards, reporting tools, and data visualization.
• Collaborate with internal teams on software portfolio planning and solution development.
• Design and implement data integration solutions across multiple systems, including Navy IT systems.
• Support modernization initiatives focused on improving system usability and user experience.
• Develop interactive training materials and instructional modules related to project management and system usage.
• Participate in program reviews, technical discussions, and governance meetings.
• Evaluate application performance and identify opportunities to improve functionality, efficiency, and user adoption.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
• 4-7 years of experience in software engineering or software development.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Active Secret Security Clearance required.
• Ability to work onsite in Portsmouth, VA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in a related technical discipline.
• Extensive software engineering experience, preferably 8-10+ years.
• Experience working with Navy IT systems or other large-scale defense-related IT environments.
• Experience with database development and SQL programming.
• Background in web-based application development and data visualization tools.
• Experience supporting complex, large-scale IT programs.
• Familiarity with Naval Shipyard IT systems such as N-MRO, AIM, and Business Objects.
• Experience working in Agile or iterative software development environments.
