Assistant Track and Field Coach

Owen County Schools JOB DESCRIPTION: Assistant Coach JOB CLASS CODE: 7346 QUALIFICATION High school diploma or GED certificate. Preferred experience in working with children. Pass criminal background check and CAN check. Must meet the qualifications required by the KHSAA. Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. Preferred substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. REPORTS TO The principal who provides objectives and final evaluation. JOB GOALS Assists in the direction and coordination of interscholastic athletics in their school. Works in conjunction with the Head Coach in determining athlete participation during practices and games, including playing time at the respective levels. Positively promotes the athletic program within the schools and community. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Assists the Head Coach and provides support and assistance with their needs. Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements the same consistently and interprets them for staff. Understands the proper administration line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmentmental meetings that require attendance. Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practice and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates programs with maintenance and school employees. Maintain open communication with student-athletes, parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders, including the Head Coach. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment. Oversee the inventory, purchasing, and upkeep of athletic equipment and supplies. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal. RESPONSIBILITIES TO STUDENTS Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant. Assisting student-athletes with athletic needs, including eligibility requirements and compliance. His/Her presence at all practices, games, and while traveling, provided assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant. Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries on proper forms and submits to the athletics office within 24 hours. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and trips off school property, encouraging sportsmanlike conduct. Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during practices, games, and all team-associated events. Monitor student-athlete progress, provide constructive feedback, and help them develop their skills and character. Lead and guide the team, fostering a positive team culture and environment. FINANCE AND EQUIPMENT Attend required annual Redbook training and abide by procedures and regulations. Assisting with the development and implementation of the athletic department budget. Assisting with fundraising efforts to support the athletic program. Assist head coach in being responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment. Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing and storing. Assist head coach in ensuring the proper cleaning, maintenance, and organization of athletic facilities. PUBLIC RELATIONS Assisting with the coordination of athletic events, including game management, ticket sales, and security. Ensures quality, effectiveness and validity of any oral or written release to local media. Assisting with public relations efforts, including media relations and community outreach. Presents information to the media concerning schedules, tournaments and results. Serving as a point of contact for parents, addressing their concerns and providing information about the athletic program. Representing the athletic department at community events and meetings.
