Forward Deployed Data EngineerEROAD is a global fleet management technology company, delivering GPS tracking, video telematics, compliance automation and driver safety tools to fleet operators across New Zealand, Australia and North America, and we're growing our Data Platform team to put data engineering talent directly in front of our strategic North American customers. We're hiring a Forward Deployed Data Engineer to sit within that team and own the technical relationship with those customers day to day.This role blends hands-on data engineering with direct customer ownership, from first workshop through to delivered solution.What You'll Do:Lead discovery workshops with customers to understand their business problems firsthandPresent findings and solution approaches to both technical teams and executive stakeholdersTranslate business problems into scoped data, analytics and AI solutionsBuild and prototype applied AI use cases directly with customersOwn engagements end to end, including scoping, estimates and risk managementWork closely with Sales, Product and Engineering to shape and deliver customer solutionsWhat You Need:5+ years of hands-on data engineering or analytics engineering experienceStrong SQL skillsExperience with a cloud data warehouse, Snowflake preferred, or equivalent hands-on depth on another modern cloud data warehousePython or another relevant programming languageExperience with dbt or an equivalent transformation frameworkSolid data quality and governance practicesGit-based development and CI/CD experienceStrong customer-facing communication skills, comfortable presenting to executive audiencesPower BI dashboard-building experience is a plusPrior experience in professional services, solutions engineering or technical consulting is a plusExperience with Snowflake Secure Data Sharing or customer data integration is a plusStreaming or near-real-time data experience is a plusBackground in transportation, telematics, logistics, compliance or cold-chain, or familiarity with North American fleet operations, is a plusWhy Join:You'll get real ownership of strategic customer engagements at a company operating at genuine scale.
