About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/IMC/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 20 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Majority of cardiac experience - Experience in Tele, IMC/Stepdown RN - Drip experience Description: The unit has 28 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are average 1:5 during the day and evening shifts, and average 1:6-7 during night shifts. Up to 75% of the patients are cardiac-related, including cardiology cases such as pre/post-caths, pre-CABG, chest pain, and NSTEMIs. General patient conditions include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, and wound care. There may also be overflow strokes. Good communication and teamwork skills are essential. The charge nurse does have patients but generally not a full assignment to provide resources to the nursing staff. The team consists of nurse aides, with average ratios of 1:9 during the day and evening shifts, and 1:14 during night shifts when full. RT equipment includes Continuous CPAP & BiPAP, high flow, vapotherm, nebulizers, and chest physiotherapy. Shifts are varied, with no self-scheduling, and include hours from morning to night. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend, and holiday requirements include every other holiday. Staff may float to other medical/surgical floors as needed. Nurses are required to read their own telemetry strips, but there are monitoring technicians available 24/7 to monitor patients. All clinicians must clock in and out during their shifts.
