About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 1 year in oncology or medical surgical oncology License: NJ or Compact RN License required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Previous charge experience (2 years preferred) - Experience with patient ratio management - Experience with charting systems required - Experience with administration of chemotherapy - Strong IV skills (starting and maintaining IVs) - Ability to float to other units as necessary - Candidates must pass the Basic Arrhythmia Review exam during orientation Description: The role involves taking care of adult patients in a medical surgical oncology setting. Daily census on the unit is approximately 28 patients. Candidates should possess skills in accessing and managing ports, as well as administering blood and blood products. Inpatient oncology experience is necessary. Strong time management and nursing skills are required. Experience with end-of-life care and pain management is preferred. Chemotherapy administration knowledge is not required for this unit. Candidates should be prepared to complete a Basic Arrhythmia Exam. The exam requires independent interpretation of cardiac rhythms using EKG strips. A passing score of 80% is mandatory, with no retakes allowed. Candidates are expected to float as needed to support other departments. Modules are a part of the orientation process and will vary by specialty.
