About the Position

Job Title: NICU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Nursery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night 3x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Must have an active RN license Certifications: BLS, NRP, STABLE Must-Have: Candidate must successfully pass the EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and a score of 100% on lethal rhythms. NICU II experience required. CPAP experience required. Traveler must have a record of multiple successfully completed assignments and no cancellations in their work history. Description: The position involves caring for neonates in a Special Care Nursery. The unit requires consistent monitoring and maintaining the stability of cardiopulmonary, neurologic, metabolic, and thermal functions. The RN will assist with specialized procedures such as lumbar puncture and endotracheal resuscitation of newborns who are 32 weeks or greater. The nurse will initiate, modify, or stop treatment according to established protocols or orders. Proficiency in respiratory support via High Flow O2, CPAP, Bubble CPAP, and Mechanical Ventilation is required. Management of central lines, peripheral IV insertions, lab draws, and administration of IV antibiotics are essential skills. The nurse must have increased knowledge of apnea and bradycardia related to preterm infants. Stabilization of newborns less than 32 weeks and preparation for transport to a higher-level facility are key responsibilities. Thermoregulation in the pre-mature and full-term infant related to passive cooling is necessary. Proficient neonatal resuscitation is required; NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E. certifications must be held. Experience with ventilation systems for High-Flow O2, CPAP, and Mechanical Ventilation is mandatory. Point of Care Blood Glucose Measurement and use of smart pumps are part of the job duties. The position entails floating to related units for neonatal care on an as-needed basis. Every other weekend and holiday work are expected.
