Role Description We are seeking an exceptional Subject Matter Expert to provide advisory and assistance (A&AS) systems engineering support to the Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office (DAF RCO) and advanced acquisition and sustainment activities of interest to the Department of Defense. This is a senior, hands‑on advisory role for an individual whose qualifications and expertise are exceptional and/or highly unique. The SME will provide strategic advice, technical guidance, and engineering oversight from a project's inception through conclusion on complex to extremely complex programs — with a emphasis on applying systems engineering to mission systems development and operation, in particular focusing on cybersecurity design and implementation, cloud architecture, DevOps, and software development. The successful candidate is recognized as an industry leader in their area of expertise, communicates effectively with senior leadership across the joint services, and thrives within multi‑functional, high‑performing teams. Key Responsibilities Lead and support technical programs, projects, and tasks whose complexity requires engineering oversight, from inception to conclusion. Support design, interpretation, and analysis of technical solutions to complex projects, and assess deliverables to ensure they meet the warfighting purpose for which they are intended. Track and advise on design trades and associated cost, schedule, and technical impacts to requirements; provide the Government risk assessments across performance, schedule, and budget. Apply digital engineering tools and techniques to capture system functions, services, interfaces, requirements, and concepts of operations. Provide architectural leadership and best practices to cloud‑based DevOps application development teams. Lead the creation of a technology framework and provide technical leadership for cloud computing and automation efforts, with a focus on the design of systems and services that run on cloud platforms designed to process highly classified data. Ensure critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and disaster recovery. Inform design and integration of hybrid‑cloud solutions across multiple service providers and classified environments. Cybersecurity Apply cybersecurity practices across cloud, DevOps, and software development efforts, including secure CI/CD pipelines and containerized software deployment. Understand Blue/Red cyber vulnerability capabilities and inform risk assessments as they impact technical performance, schedule, and cost. Provide strategic advice, technical guidance, and expertise to program and project staff; consult with the client to define needs and problems. Demonstrate strong leadership and team‑building skills, collaborating effectively with a group of high‑performing individuals. Other duties as required. Required Qualifications (SME Labor Category) Experience: Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant Department of Defense (DoD) / Intelligence Community (IC) or relevant industry work experience. Classified experience: No less than five (5) total years of experience in a SAP and/or SCI environment, with at least one (1) year of that total being within the past five (5) years. Education: A Master of Science / Master of Engineering (MS/ME) degree in a field relevant to the functional area. Clearance: Active DoD Personnel Security Clearance. Demonstrated mastery and recognition as an industry leader in the relevant area of expertise. Strong ability to communicate and integrate with senior leadership across the joint services. Desired / Differentiating Qualifications Demonstrated experience designing large and complex IT operations in large organizations, research environments, or production environments. Hands‑on architectural leadership for cloud and hybrid‑cloud platforms supporting highly classified data processing. Depth in DevOps practices, CI/CD pipeline analysis, containerized deployment, and cloud‑based application development. Cybersecurity expertise spanning cloud, DevOps, and software development. Familiarity with modern, agile software design and development processes in a DoD weapon‑system or mission‑system context. Experience designing for high availability and disaster recovery in mission‑critical environments. Work Location & Travel Primary place of performance is in USG facilities at JBAB and other NCR locations; other CONUS and OCONUS locations as required. Telework / remote work is permitted on a limited basis only under Government and prime direction and approval. Travel within the NCR (80-mile radius of JBAB) is a cost of doing business; CONUS and OCONUS travel may be required with Government coordination and approval. #J-18808-Ljbffr
