Ophthalmic Technician- Intermediate

UPMC Mercy Vision Institute is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician Intermediate to join our team at 1622 Locust Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. This position works Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and supports our Glaucoma, Motility, and Oculoplastics services. Travel to other locations is extremely limited (less than 5%), though flexibility to assist other departments within the building as needed is required. In this role, you will perform comprehensive patient work-ups, including obtaining patient histories, lensometry, autorefraction, visual acuity testing, color vision and stereo testing, visual field testing, pupil assessment, motility evaluation, tonometry, dilation, patient education and communication, and other ancillary diagnostic testing. Responsibilities:

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry & Keratometry: automated and manual Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid and confrontation fields.Ocular Motility: Identify functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusAdvanced Refractometry: manifest refractometry & auto-refractor, transposing scriptsTonometry: Goldmann, ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of eachSupplemental skills: pachymetry, Schirmer’s, glare testing, color testing.
• Angle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Ability to routinely perform automated visual fields, fundus, Ascan. (Sonomed, IOL Master & Lenstar), Bscan, corneal topography, OCT.Ability to scribe and assist with lasers, injections or other in office procedures.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Maintains and trouble shoots all ophthalmic equipment issues and alert manager when repairs are needed.Works directly with the physicians, fellows, and residents of their service for increased efficiency and patient satisfaction.Travel to other clinical sites.
