Fund Controller
Los Angeles, California, United States, Phoenix, Arizona, United States
Arixa Capital is a leading private real estate lender and alternative investment manager with over $8 billion in originations completed since inception and a servicing portfolio exceeding $2.7 billion as of June 30, 2026. We're more than a lender. Our vertically integrated platform allows us to manage every step of the loan process in-house, ensuring speed, reliability, and an exceptional experience for our clients. Backed by a substantial balance sheet, top-tier institutional partners, and a talented operations team, we're positioned for continued growth and innovation. At Arixa, our culture is one of our strongest assets. We foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing environment where team members are empowered to grow, take ownership, and make an impact. Our team thrives on solving problems, celebrating wins, and driving results—together.
Position Overview: We are seeking a Fund Controller. The Fund Controller will serve as the internal accounting and financial reporting owner for Arixa Capital's investment funds and will oversee the work performed by the Company's third-party fund administrator. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of fund NAVs, financial statements, investor allocations, management and incentive fee calculations, capital activity, valuations, and other fund-level financial reporting. The Fund Controller will provide rigorous review and challenge of administrator-prepared work rather than performing routine fund accounting activities directly.
The position will also play a key role in maintaining a scalable control environment appropriate for an SEC-registered investment adviser, supporting annual fund audits, technical accounting, valuation governance, and the continued growth and evolution of Arixa's investment products. The ideal candidate combines strong private fund accounting expertise with the ability to oversee external service providers, understand complex fund structures and investment economics, and communicate effectively with Finance, Portfolio Management, Compliance, Investor Relations, Tax, auditors, and senior management.
Summary of Responsibilities: The Fund Controller is an LA-based or AZ-based position on a hybrid schedule with at least three (3) days in-office. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer. While not an exhaustive list, the Fund Controller will have the following responsibilities:
Fund Administrator Oversight
· Serve as the primary Finance owner of the relationship with the third-party fund administrator.
· Review and approve administrator-prepared NAV packages, financial statements, investor allocations, capital activity, and supporting reconciliations.
· Establish and maintain effective review controls over outsourced fund accounting activities.
· Monitor administrator's performance against agreed service levels, reporting deadlines, and quality standards.
· Review and challenge unusual transactions, reconciling items, accounting conclusions, and NAV adjustments.
· Coordinate resolution of data, accounting, and operational issues between the administrator and internal teams.
· Develop processes and controls that allow the fund administration model to scale as Arixa launches new products and grows AUM.
NAV, Fund Accounting & Valuation Governance
· Own the integrity and completeness of monthly and quarterly fund closes and NAV calculations.
· Review investor capital accounts, subscriptions, redemptions, distributions, and other capital activity.
· Review management fees, incentive fees, preferred returns, waterfalls, and other fund-specific calculations in accordance with governing documents.
· Ensure appropriate accounting treatment and consistency across funds while recognizing differences in individual fund structures.
· Review valuation support and ensure changes in fair value are appropriately reflected in fund financial statements and NAV.
· Coordinate with Portfolio Management, Risk Management, third-party valuation providers, and the fund administrator on valuation matters.
· Maintain documentation supporting valuation conclusions and compliance with applicable accounting policies and fund valuation procedures.
· Support valuation committee materials and related governance processes.
Audit, Financial Statements & Compliance
· Lead the annual financial statement audit process for assigned funds.
· Coordinate audit schedules, supporting documentation, confirmations, valuation support, and technical accounting matters.
· Manage audit timelines and proactively resolve issues to support timely issuance of audited financial statements.
· Coordinate with Tax and external providers to ensure consistency between financial reporting, tax reporting, and investor activity where appropriate.
· Partner with Investor Relations to ensure fund financial information communicated to investors is accurate and consistent with underlying accounting records.
· Provide Finance leadership and senior management with analysis of fund financial performance and significant accounting developments.
· Partner with Legal and Compliance to maintain financial reporting and accounting processes consistent with the requirements applicable to an SEC-registered investment adviser.
· Support regulatory examinations and requests relating to fund financial information, valuations, fees, expenses, investor allocations, and related accounting records.
· Ensure fees and expenses are allocated among funds, investors, and affiliated entities consistently with governing documents and established policies.
· Maintain appropriate controls over related-party transactions, expense allocations, cross-fund activity, and other areas requiring heightened governance.
· Support Compliance in testing and documenting financial and operational controls relevant to the investment funds.
Team Leadership & Scalability
· Provide oversight and technical guidance to internal and offshore accounting resources supporting the funds.
· Establish clear responsibilities between Arixa, the fund administrator, and other third-party providers.
· Develop standardized review procedures, checklists, reconciliations, and control documentation.
· Identify opportunities to automate reconciliations, reporting, and data flows between Arixa's internal systems and the fund administrator.
· Help design a scalable fund accounting operating model capable of supporting additional funds, investment strategies, investors, and AUM without proportionate growth in internal headcount.
Preferred Qualifications:
· 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with extensive experience in private funds, private credit, real estate investment funds, alternative asset management, or a related investment management environment.
· Public accounting alternatives audit experience. Experience overseeing or working closely with third-party fund administrators strongly preferred.
· Prior experience as a Fund Controller, Assistant Fund Controller, or similar role preferred.
· Strong understanding of investment company accounting, NAV preparation and review, capital activity, allocations, management fees, incentive fees, and fund financial statements.
· Demonstrated experience managing annual fund audits and working with external auditors.
· Familiarity with SEC-registered investment adviser environments and related financial controls, books and records, custody, valuation, and fee/expense allocation considerations preferred.
· Experience with private credit, real estate debt, loan investments, warehouse financing, or similar strategies is highly desirable.
· Strong technical accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with senior management and cross-functional teams.
· Advanced Excel skills; experience with fund accounting platforms, investor reporting systems, ERP systems, and data/reporting tools preferred.
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
· CPA strongly preferred.
