Material Handler

This role supports warehouse operations by safely handling materials, performing shipping and receiving activities, managing inventory, and ensuring accurate and timely order processing within an automated environment. The Material Handler plays a key role in maintaining organized storage areas, preparing shipments, and supporting the flow of medical equipment and related materials through the warehouse.

Responsibilities

• Move cases, crates, packages, and other materials throughout the warehouse using hand trucks and related equipment.
• Stack and store materials in designated warehouse areas, maintaining orderly and clearly labeled storage locations.
• Perform tasks required for shipping finished products in an automated shipping and receiving environment in accordance with the Shipping Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Weigh parcels or crates of materials, prepare and affix labels and documentation, and generate bills of lading while maintaining accurate shipping records.
• Process customer orders and shipments using FedEx and UPS online systems and occasionally coordinate shipments with less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers.
• Evaluate and select the most appropriate shipping method to meet customer delivery requirements and deadlines.
• Interact with senior leadership when needed to resolve shipping issues, delays, or exceptions in a professional and timely manner.
• Enter and process shipping transactions in the companys assigned database systems, including Oracle and warehouse management systems (WMS), ensuring accurate freight cost assignment.
• Query and review department reports daily within Oracle and WMS to verify order status, shipping accuracy, and inventory movement.
• Perform kitting activities by assembling components and materials into kits according to specified requirements.
• Support inventory control by assisting with counting, tracking, and reconciling materials and finished goods.
• Conduct visual inspections of materials and packages to verify condition, labeling, and accuracy before storage or shipment.
• Assist with general warehouse labor tasks, including packaging, packing, loading, and unloading materials and finished products.
• Follow all warehouse procedures and safety guidelines while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in material handling within a warehouse environment.
• Hands-on experience with inventory handling and storage practices.
• Ability to operate hand trucks and similar material handling equipment safely.
• Demonstrated experience in shipping and receiving operations.
• Proficiency in packaging, packing, loading, and unloading materials.
• Experience processing shipments using FedEx and UPS online systems.
• Familiarity with coordinating shipments with LTL carriers.
• Ability to determine appropriate shipping methods to meet customer demand and delivery timelines.
• Experience entering and processing shipping transactions in enterprise systems such as Oracle.
• Ability to query and review reports in warehouse management systems (WMS).
• Strong attention to detail for weighing, addressing, labeling, and documenting shipments.
• Ability to follow established Shipping Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Effective communication skills for interacting with leadership and other internal stakeholders to resolve shipping issues.
• Capability to perform visual inspection of materials and packages to ensure quality and accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in an automated shipping and receiving environment.
• Experience in a warehouse supporting medical equipment or similarly regulated products.
• Comfort with general labor tasks in a warehouse setting, including repetitive lifting and movement.
• Ability to maintain accurate records of goods shipped and stored.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple orders and shipping priorities.
• Basic computer literacy for working with web-based shipping platforms and database systems.

Work Environment

The role is based in a warehouse setting that supports a medical equipment manufacturer. You will work around stored materials, finished products, and packaging areas, handling items using hand trucks and other material handling tools. The environment includes an automated shipping and receiving operation, frequent interaction with shipping carriers, and regular use of systems such as Oracle, WMS, and online FedEx/UPS platforms. Work typically involves standing, walking, lifting, stacking, and organizing materials throughout the shift in an industrial warehouse atmosphere.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Torrance, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.50 - $24.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
