Pediatric X-Ray Technologist

Job Description

The Pediatric X-Ray Technologist is responsible for performing radiographic imaging procedures for pediatric patients, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the process.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient identity and review physician orders before initiating x-ray procedures.
• Utilize x-ray equipment to capture high-quality images of bones, tissues, and organs as directed by physician orders.
• Explain x-ray procedures to patients and address any questions they may have.
• Position patients effectively, which may involve lifting and transferring those with limited mobility.
• Safely handle all radiologic equipment, minimizing radiation exposure to patients.
• Monitor each patient's status and assess their age-specific needs.
• Produce diagnostic-quality images for radiologist interpretation.
• Report any damaged or malfunctioning x-ray equipment to management promptly.
• Utilize electronic patient information systems to confirm patient data and special exam comments.
• Adhere to the Dual Patient Identifier procedure.
• Maintain accurate patient records by properly identifying and submitting images to the PACS system.

Requirements

• Completion of formal training in an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
• Active certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• New York State license or the ability to obtain one before employment begins.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience as an X-Ray Technologist, preferably in a Level 1 trauma center.
• Ability to assist in moving or lifting patients.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and patient-focused demeanor.
• Team player who fosters a collaborative work environment.
• Ability to report within 30 minutes to an on-call shift.

Additional Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a pediatric hospital setting.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a trauma 1 center.
• Familiarity with pediatric fluoroscopy exams such as UGI, VCUGs, Barium Enemas, and NICU portable images.
