Job Description - Groundskeeper (26141684) Overview The position will perform a wide variety of routine maintenance and grounds keeping in an assigned geographic area, primarily at the Yellowstone Wildlife Management Area, while also being able to assist with other units such as fishing access sites and state parks as needed. The groundskeeping work ensures that all sites are maintained for public use and safety, extending the usable life of facilities and habitats for program efficiency. The Groundskeeper may be required to work holidays and will perform field work under adverse weather and environmental conditions. Responsibilities Perform minor routine maintenance to facilities by preparing surfaces for painting or staining, changing light bulbs, cleaning gutters and downspouts. Use hand tools, wood scrapers, wire brushes, sanders, paintbrushes, primers, paint, cleanup chemicals, and step ladders. Assist in maintaining FWP grounds with latrines, fire rings, campsites, mowing, weed cutting, hand‑pulling weeds, irrigation, raking, shoveling, fertilizing, planting, and pruning. Use rakes, shovels, pruners, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and leaf blowers. Assist the public by answering questions and providing information about the use of fishing access sites, parks, WMAs, and administrative facilities. Follow established procedures and contact authorities when encountering emergencies or law‑enforcement situations. Collect information on violations or accidents and document using standard reports, establishing communication with local 911/EMS and other officials. Keep detailed records of duties, equipment and supply needs, and time worked, submitting them to the work unit office in a timely manner. Participate in annual and scheduled training, including Standard First Aid, CPR, and safety meetings, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment. Collect fees and occasionally educate visitors where applicable. Clean and sanitize restroom and latrine facilities, picnic tables, barbeque grills, and replace paper products. Clean other FWP facilities such as sidewalks, boat/swimming docks, picnic shelters, storage structures, bulletin boards, and interpretive displays. Perform daily inspections and report hazards, maintenance, or repair needs. Respond to facility problems by unclogging drains and toilets, installing toilet seats, and redirecting public use. Collect trash from facilities, area garbage cans, beaches, grounds, trail areas, and adjacent highway rights‑of‑way, placing them in transfer bins for shipment off‑site. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience) The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position are normally attained through a high school diploma or equivalency. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
