Job Description: An HVAC Service Technician-Level 2 provides HVAC/R services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs, installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading HVAC/R systems and equipment, and assisting other skilled trades. Primary Duties Coordinates with supervisor and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently. Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems. Inspects HVAC systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and recommending preventative maintenance. Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure ongoing functioning of HVAC systems. Repairs heating and air conditioning systems and/or components for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable living/working environment. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours to ensure resolution of immediate safety concerns. Provide customers with information and pricing on service agreements, accessories, quality, cost and other comfort improvements. Complete approved repairs, improvements, or installations within industry standard times, following proper safety procedures. Collect for work performed. Clean equipment and work area upon completion of work. Coordinate work with dispatch. Provide information required by dispatch to keep jobs organized and customers informed of progress. Maintain material stock levels in service vehicle as well as keeping vehicle clean and organized. Complete paperwork as required on a timely basis. Perform approved repairs on a timely basis. May be asked to work in other departments as needed. Supervisory Requirements You may be asked to assume responsibility of jobs that require supervision of others. Skills / Qualifications Proficient verbal and written English language skills. Meet all qualifications and tool requirements of Level 1 (plus tools on Level 2 list). Ability to learn and apply diagnostic techniques. Ability to troubleshoot most air conditioning and heat pump system malfunctions both residential and commercial. Ability to diagnose air flow problems using approved methods. Ability to diagnose and repair various zone systems. Ability to help with HVAC installations. Have a basic understanding of how chillers and boilers work and have the ability to make minor repairs. Ability to follow and carry out both written and verbal instructions in a timely manner. Ability to arrive on time daily. Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems. Ability to follow controls/wiring schematic. Ability to braze/solder/weld. Ability to safely use ladders in performance of job duties including climbing and descending from a ladder. Ability to work at heights above ground floor level. Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces. Willingness to invest time in training seminars, classes, and self‑taught training. Adaptability: Manage competing demands and frequent changes in a fast paced work environment. Maintain professional well groomed, workman like appearance with no visible tattoos or piercings. Maintain professional attitude at all times. Required Tool List Small hammer Cordless drill with bits 2‑x tape measure Flat bar to align shafts/pulleys Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations High school diploma or equivalent Completion of HVAC trade school 2 or more years of field experience as an HVAC Service Technician Valid Texas Driver’s License and insurability by Company insurance carrier EPA certification Nate certification preferred Working Conditions Workweeks are 5 days: Monday thru Friday. 1 hour of unpaid time for lunch is recommended. Start time is 8:00 AM, end time is 5:00 PM. Overtime will be required on an as‑needed basis. Travel and overnight stays may be required. On‑call duty and after‑hour calls are required. Key Requirements Authorized to work in the U.S. – E‑Verify system is used to verify employment eligibility. Will be subject to pre‑employment drug and alcohol tests, background investigation and/or credit check. Physical Requirements Carries or moves objects weighing up to 70 pounds with or without the aid of equipment. May push or pull carts or other such objects. Climbs and descends ladders with or without equipment which may weigh up to 40 lbs. May work at heights above ground floor level. Required to stand for more than 1 hour at a time. Bends, twists, stoops, sits; climbs or balances; kneels, crouches or crawls, and reaches with hands and arms. Uses manual dexterity or fine motor skills; grasps, moves, handles, and reaches. Uses the ability to talk and hear. Uses a keyboard, calculator, adding machine, or other devices to enter and transform words or data. Uses close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to perform job in small crawl spaces, attics, under structures, and in cramped, dirty/dusty conditions.
