Job Overview

We are seeking a Hydrant Inspector to inspect, test, and maintain fire hydrants throughout the service area. This position is responsible for identifying operational issues, documenting inspection results, and reporting maintenance needs to ensure hydrants remain safe and fully functional.

The ideal candidate will have basic mechanical knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work safely outdoors in varying conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspections and operational testing of fire hydrants.
• Identify malfunctions, defects, or maintenance needs and report findings to supervisors.
• Document inspection, testing, maintenance, and operational activities accurately using written records and electronic devices.
• Assist in identifying operational variations and recommend necessary repairs.
• Safely perform inspections while working in and around traffic areas.
• Follow all company safety procedures and work practices.
• Maintain accurate computer and iPad records of completed inspections.

Required Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Required Skills

• Basic knowledge of plumbing and mechanical systems.
• Proficiency with computers and iPads for documentation and reporting.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions, safety procedures, and training materials.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to safely use hand tools to tighten or loosen bolts, screws, and connectors.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
• Commitment to safe work practices at all times.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs or more .
• Frequent use of hands, fingers, and arms to perform inspection and maintenance activities.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Comfortable working near roadways and in active traffic environments.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
