Advocacy Manager

The Coalition of Communities of Color (CCC) is seeking a permanent Advocacy Manager to create change for racial justice in Oregon. As Advocacy Manager, your work will be dynamic and highly collaborative, crossing a wide range of issues and strategies, including coalition member engagement and capacity-building, policy analysis, legislative and electoral strategy, and partnerships with external coalitions, organizations, and political allies. CCC is an alliance of 20 culturally specific organizations dedicated to cross-cultural collective action for racial justice. We work to improve policies and investments for communities of color in the short term, while also building for lasting systemic change. CCC’s policy priorities include democracy reform, housing, environmental justice, economic justice, and beyond. To achieve these priorities, we work with decision-makers, engage in electoral campaigns, build partnerships, and convene our coalition of 20 culturally specific community-based organizations. Our work occurs at both the state and local level. The Advocacy Manager will also serve as the Political Manager for our affiliate 501(c)(4) organization, Building Power for Communities of Color, and its lobbying and candidate-related activities. We encourage candidates with a range of experience levels to apply. In the event of an exceptionally qualified candidate, CCC may consider restructuring the role as a director-level position responsible for program management. Qualifications A successful candidate will have the following qualifications: Three or more years’ full time experience in a related field required, including lobbying, campaigns, public policy development, community organizing, or similar experience Ability to apply a robust racial justice analysis to policy issues and campaigns Strong writing and public speaking skills Self-motivated, particularly for project management, outreach, and relationship building Excellent interpersonal skills and political judgment Understanding of organizing principles, particularly organizing coalitions and partners The following experiences will contribute to the Advocacy Manager’s success but are not required: Experience lobbying in the Oregon State Legislature and local government Experience with program management Experience convening coalitions and building partnerships Familiarity with local and state advocacy landscape, particularly the Oregon legislature and Portland metro area Experience in lobbying or campaigns in Oregon Experience managing 501(c)(4)s and compliance #J-18808-Ljbffr
