Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position with Epic experience required and charge nurse responsibilities on night shifts.

Details

• Hospital Med/Surg unit setting with a daily census of approximately 43 patients
• Adult and geriatric general Med/Surg patient population; no PCU-level patients
• Patient ratio of 1:6–7
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week; 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• Travelers on night shift are required to take on a charge nurse role
• Special procedures include insulin drips, heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, high-flow oxygen, and occasional short-term BiPAP with respiratory support
• EMR: Epic (experience required); medication dispensing via Pyxis; communication via SBAR
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required — must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• On-call required for pre-scheduled call shifts
• Floating to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding areas
• Contract length of 13–26 weeks

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS certification required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with insulin and heparin drips required
• EKG test must be passed prior to start
• Two professional supervisor/manager references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
• CPI certification and charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Orientation is approximately 24 hours, held weekly; 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are also required and must be completed annually
• Navy scrubs required; not provided by the facility
• Travelers will be assigned to an Inclement Weather/Storm Team and may be required to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters; unit consolidation or reassignment may occur mid-contract
• May be required to care for COVID-positive patients
• RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment (orientation); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday, and anything beyond 7 days requires facility approval
• No RTO after booking will be approved or worked out onsite; call-offs or unapproved RTO may result in contract cancellation
• Any previous permanent, PRN, or per-diem employee of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
• Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local pay rate
• Travel pairs are allowed provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
