Senior Laboratory Technologist IV - Leadership & QC

Responsibilities Perform routine clinical laboratory tests and procedures for diagnosis and treatment on specimens submitted to the laboratory. Enter raw data from instruments into a computer to determine final results and record results on report forms, in record books, and/or electronically. Process specimens and cultures, isolate and identify micro‑organisms, prepare and examine slides and smears. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and perform quality control procedures. Participate in internal and external quality control and proficiency testing programs as required by regulatory agencies. Prepare packages, labels, standardize laboratory media, reagents, and controls to ensure the laboratory is adequately supplied. Maintain laboratory records and prepare reports on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Assist with complex analyses on laboratory specimens and record results on laboratory report forms. Participate in non‑routine testing connected with research programs in specialty and subspecialty areas. Maintain internal and external quality control and proficiency testing programs. Assist in on‑the‑job or classroom training of subordinates, new personnel, and other staff. Supervise subordinate employees, review their work, and evaluate performance, taking corrective action when needed. Order and maintain adequate amounts of media, reagents, and supplies; oversee ordering and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment. Assist in developing and revising laboratory policies and procedures. Conduct tests and/or other complex analyses. Design and maintain charts, logs, and other records; testify in court or other proceedings as an expert witness. Prepare correspondence, narrative, statistical reports, and technical reports as required. Participate in or supervise the preparation, administration, and rating of laboratory proficiency test programs. Plan and conduct training sessions for laboratory personnel in various techniques and new procedures. Oversee a quality control program and review performance by subordinates. Prepare or oversee preparation of laboratory samples for simulated and split‑sample proficiency testing. Visit laboratories to ensure compliance with regulations and investigate complaints, devising corrective action plans. Assist in the preparation of annual budget requests and interview applicants for laboratory positions. Serve as liaison between laboratory staff and administrative policymakers. Minimum Qualifications Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED. Appointment to Levels IV and V In addition to meeting the qualification requirement of Assignment Level II, candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 10, Section 58‑1.4 of the New York Public Health Law. Special Notes Qualifying experience is not limited to New York State. Candidates licensed or permitted to practice as cytotechnologists or histotechnologists may only be assigned work, including supervision, in a laboratory discipline appropriate to their license or permit. Candidates licensed or holding permits to practice as clinical laboratory technologists may be assigned work, including supervision, in all laboratory disciplines and specialties.
