Job Title: RN Infection Preventionist Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Infection Prevention Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 5 days, 8 hours each day Experience: Minimum 2 years in clinical nursing role; Minimum 1 year in infection prevention preferred License: RN - Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact Certifications: Cert in Infection Control within 2 years preferred Description: The RN Infection Preventionist (IP) is a registered professional nurse. This role functions under the direction of the Infection Prevention Manager. Responsibilities include hospital surveillance to identify healthcare-related infections. Ensure public reporting for mandated healthcare-associated infections. Assist with developing policies and procedures. Educate patients and team members on infection prevention practices. Conduct routine audits and make physical rounds of facility departments. Monitor infection prevention practices including construction, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Conduct surveillance for healthcare-associated infections and epidemiologically significant organisms. Utilize current definitions and apply them consistently. Collect, aggregate, and analyze data. Ensure accurate data input into surveillance systems. Run validation reports efficiently. Participate in internal and external validation of data. Confirm and investigate potential clusters and outbreaks. Participate in environment of care rounds and oversee infection prevention related corrective actions. Facilitate activities to ensure compliance with hand hygiene and isolation protocols. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations. Keep accurate surveillance records and enter data into repositories. Report diseases to public health authorities as required by law. Submit data according to established deadlines. Analyze information for appropriate dissemination. Develop and deliver staff education programs. Provide patient and family education on infection prevention practices. Conduct infection prevention orientation for hospital team members. Collaborate with management to review and implement policies and procedures. Utilize resources to respond to queries and needs within the organization. Maintain regulatory and accreditation compliance. Collaborate with employee health regarding exposure and illness prevention. Assist in annual risk assessment and surveillance plan evaluation. Contribute to the evaluation of new products. Perform other duties as assigned. Comply with all relevant policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities. Excellent teamwork and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated knowledge of epidemiology, surveillance, data collection, and analysis principles. Knowledge of infection prevention guidelines and regulatory requirements is essential. Personal time management skills are required.
