• Shampooing clients
• Interacting with Hair Stylists to ensure proper hair treatments
• Laundering and stocking the spa and salon with towels and robes

Position Title: Shampoo Technician

Classification : Non-Exempt/Hourly

Reports to: Hair Department Manager

Department : Client Care

Job Summary :

This is a key position that provides friendly and efficient customer service and shampoo functions to all hair service clients, as well as provides laundry and cleaning support to the location.

Essential Functions:

• Greets and welcomes client upon arrival to shampoo area with proper personal introduction
• Assess client shampoo and conditioning needs based on hair stylist recommendation and/or hair type
• Informs client of specific shampoo, conditioner and treatment products along with general product knowledge
• Makes client comfortable in shampoo chair
• Uses towels to ensure client remains dry
• Determines comfortable water temperature
• Performs shampoo, scalp massage and color rinse services using current protocols
• Sanitizes shampoo bowls between clients following current protocols
• Applies hair treatments and hot towel treatments as directed using current protocols
• Sweeps hair in department and maintains overall neatness of shampoo area, color area and hair department
• Performs laundry of all salon towels, capes, smocks, spa towels, robes and linens to meet demand of operation
• Handles customer’s questions and directs them to appropriate staff personnel.
• Interacts with staff in a professional manner, assisting hair departments as needed.
• Communicates all pertinent information to the Hair Department Manager or Location Manager.
• Attends all required shampoo training provided by About Faces to gain knowledge and become proficient with its shampoo protocols and product lines.
• Participates in quarterly inventory counts when requested.
• Promotes salon/spa services through professional knowledge, presence and conversation with customers.
• Ensures that all clean-up duties are completed prior to opening and/or closing and whenever necessary.
• Maintains a professional neat and clean appearance according to About Faces standards and dress code. Additionally wears an apron at all times
• Maintains client amenities as needed or directed in accordance with amenities programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Prior spa/salon experience helpful but not required.
• Ability to operate effectively in stressful situations.
• Customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
• Attendance and participation in company meetings/trainings as scheduled.
• Ability to be flexible with scheduling (days, weekends, holidays).
• Work additional hours (within reason) during peak seasons and when requested.
• Must be able to understand, speak, read and write in the English language.

Work Environment:

The Shampoo Technician will be required to manage a number of responsibilities at one time, and may be interrupted to meet the needs and requests of staff, visitors and guests. The Shampoo Technician may find the environment to be busy, noisy, and schedule critical. S/he will be tasked with using various types of equipment (shampoo bowls, washing machine, dryer, coffee maker etc.). Additional responsibilities to support services may differ dependent upon the location. S/he will need excellent organizational, customer service, time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.
