Fleet Maintenance Team Leader (Mechanical Repair)

Job Summary Supervisory level auto body repair or mechanical repair work for City departmental vehicles. This includes assigning, reviewing and supervising technicians, trades workers and support personnel engaged in maintenance, repair, inspection, and cost estimation. Responsibilities Assign and review subordinates' maintenance and repair work to ensure safe operation of vehicles. Inspect accident‑damaged vehicles, compile detailed repair estimates, and prepare cost estimates for Risk Management. Train, instruct and guide subordinate personnel in vehicle repair, maintenance, and inspection methods, techniques and procedures. Diagnose malfunctioning vehicles and equipment using inspection and computerized diagnostic techniques. Use Windows‑based computer systems and specialized software to measure and perform tasks. Perform work under general supervision of a fleet maintenance superior. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Four (4) years of experience in the automotive trade within the area of specialization. At least two (2) years at a full performance journeyman level in mechanical repair or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience diagnosing, maintaining and repairing automotive vehicles and related equipment. Equivalent experience may be traced using proven training and certifications: Post‑high‑school automotive trade school curriculum of 6 months to 12 months counts monthly toward the general experience requirement. Current ASE certification in automobile or medium/heavy truck specialties may substitute for the general experience requirement. Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology may substitute for the general experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis. Physical and Medical Requirements Ability to physically perform the duties and work in the environmental conditions required of the position. Licenses, Registrations and Certificates Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license (proper class) before appointment and during employment. Valid Pennsylvania CDL Class A license within six (6) months of appointment if required. Valid safety inspection license and emissions control license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania before appointment and during tenure.
