As an Engineer, you aren't just driving the apparatus; you are the vital backbone of every emergency response. Under the supervision of the Captain, you'll navigate the streets, operate fire pumps and aerial ladders, and perform the critical hydraulic calculations that keep our crews safe and the water flowing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FIREFIGHTING & EMERGENCY RESPONSE

  • Respond to and assist at a wide variety of calls for service, including fires, rescue situations, haz-mat incidents, and medical emergencies.
  • Identify and implement appropriate tactics to evacuate occupants, rescue victims, and protect exposures.
  • Perform fire control, extinguishment, forcible entry, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul activities.
  • Raise and climb ladders, and connect, extend, and operate hose lines.
  • Respond to emergency medical incidents, triage patients, and determine appropriate medical care.
  • Provide basic and advanced life support, and transport the sick and injured to definitive care.

APPARATUS OPERATION & MAINTENANCE

  • Drive department apparatus, operate fire pumps, aerial ladders, and other tools.
  • Use hydraulic theory and mathematics to calculate and provide correct pump pressure.
  • Monitor operating systems during use and make appropriate adjustments as required.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the apparatus and equipment to ensure immediate readiness.
  • Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on apparatus and equipment.
  • Clean, wash, and maintain apparatus, equipment, and station grounds.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in periodic testing of ladders, fire hose, SCBAs, pumps, and other equipment.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH & ADMINISTRATION

  • Provide community education, wellness services, station tours, and educational classes.
  • Perform administrative duties including preparing reports, forms, research, and recommendations.
  • Participate in city and department training, including firefighting techniques and emergency medical care.

Education / Certification / Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of full-time firefighter experience, OR five (5) years of volunteer/part-time firefighter experience.
  • Utah State or NREMT, Advanced EMT (AEMT) or Paramedic certification.
  • ACLS, BLS, and PALS Certifications.
  • Certified Firefighter I & II in the State of Utah.
  • Certified ADO-Pumper.
  • Certified ADO-Aerial (must obtain within 1 year of hire).
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700a, and 800b Certifications.
  • Valid Utah State driver's license.

Skills, Abilities, and Requirements

  • Ability to command and control fire and EMS incidents effectively.
  • Ability to work professionally and effectively with the general public.
  • Ability to learn and memorize the layout of the city's water mains and street numbering systems.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and intense physical maneuvering.
  • Skill in operating emergency apparatus and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in word processing and general computer operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of department policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Must meet physical fitness requirements established by the fire department and city.
  • Must meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position.
  • Must work well with others and operate effectively as a team player.
