Growing together.As the Senior Director of AI Infrastructure & Platform Engineering within Global Technology Services (GTS) at Optum Technology, you will lead the strategic vision, platform architecture, and operational engineering of enterprise AI infrastructure. Our mission in GTS is to be client-obsessed, strengthen our foundation, accelerate innovation, and prepare our technology organization for the future. In this executive engineering leadership role, you will connect AI/ML engineering requirements with high-performance compute and platform services across both cloud and on-premises environments. By driving operational and engineering excellence, you will build secure, resilient, and highly available AI platforms that accelerate enterprise AI adoption, deliver exceptional client experiences, and cultivate top-tier engineering talent.You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.Primary Responsibilities: Define and drive the strategic enterprise architecture for AI infrastructure and platform services across cloud and on-premises environmentsDesign, develop, and deploy AI-powered platform and infrastructure solutions to address complex enterprise business challenges with an emphasis on responsible AI practicesConnect AI/ML engineering needs with scalable compute, storage, high-speed networking, and platform capabilitiesProvide solution engineering and architectural leadership for high-performance on-premises, hybrid, and cloud AI hosting environmentsEvaluate emerging trends in AI hardware, specialized compute platforms, and engineering frameworks to inform solution design and drive strategic innovationLeverage enterprise-approved AI tools and modern platform practices to streamline engineering workflows, automate infrastructure management, and drive continuous operational improvementLead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams, building a solid culture focused on technical excellence and talent developmentPartner across Global Technology Services and cross-functional technology teams to ensure consistent, reliable, and simple-to-use platform experiencesYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications: 10+ years of technology engineering experience in enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, or distributed systems architecture5+ years of leadership and management experience directing technical engineering organizations3+ years of experience architecting and deploying AI/ML infrastructure, compute platforms (e.g., GPUs, specialized AI accelerators), or high-performance compute environmentsDemonstrated experience designing and delivering on-premises or hybrid enterprise infrastructure and platform solutionsProven experience utilizing modern infrastructure automation and enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline operational workflowsPreferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical fieldExperience architecting enterprise infrastructure optimized for Large Language Model (LLM) training, fine-tuning, and low-latency inferenceProven depth of expertise in container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), MLOps platform integration, and multi-cloud platform architecturesProven track record of driving operational and engineering excellence across large-scale, high-availability technology environments*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
