Point of Care Coordinator, Alternate Site Testing - Full-Time, Day Shift

Overview Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Point of Care Coordinator in the Alternate Site Testing (Point of Care Testing) department. This is a 100% onsite opportunity based in the greater Chicagoland area. The Point of Care Coordinator coordinates quality control and quality performance improvement functions of point of care testing performed by non-laboratory care givers, and provides technical consultation and standardized policies and procedures for clinical staff in point of care settings. The role includes planning, organizing, documenting, and providing technical and quality performance services for testing at point of care sites and designated non-centralized laboratories. Compliance with all applicable regulatory/accreditation requirements, including CLIA standards and CAP guidelines, is required. Responsibilities Oversee point of care testing operations to ensure appropriate procedures throughout all phases of specimen handling and testing. Develop and implement quality control programs to ensure high-quality results for patients and physicians. Ensure timely reporting of results, including auditing test results and reports for accuracy as needed. Provide consultative support and verify compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies to maintain licensure and accreditation for point of care testing. Perform tasks related to quality and compliance monitoring and prepare documentation to substantiate required activities. Ensure readiness for internal and external inspections of point of care resources. Travel to ambulatory locations as needed to provide in-person assistance. Participate in preparing testing procedures and provide updates according to CLIA, CAP, and institutional requirements. Contribute to training, orientation, and ongoing continuing education of personnel using point of care resources. Prepare competency and training documents and maintain training records for inspections. Participate in laboratory quality improvement activities as needed. Evaluate new instruments, products, procedures, workflows, and methods; provide recommendations to the Point of Care Director and Advisory Committee on equipment acquisition or operational changes. Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and interact with supply chain and vendors as required. Ensure proper operation of all point of care equipment and verify QC monitoring and preventive maintenance is completed and documented per procedures. Coordinate with CBIS and Laboratory Information Services to ensure electronic connectivity between point of care devices and institutional systems for transmission of orders and results. Collaborate with administration to facilitate complete charge capture and posting for point of care technical services. Qualifications Must satisfy CLIA’88 qualification requirements for testing personnel performing high complexity testing. Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or related field from an accredited college or university. Certification or eligibility as medical technologist (MT) or specialist (Sxx) through ASCP or equivalent. High degree of computer literacy; ability to use laboratory/hospital information systems and data tools; willingness to learn new software applications. Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment and testing methodologies. Knowledge of QC/QA/QI principles and processes; knowledge of regulatory requirements related to Clinical Laboratory operations (preferred). Excellent interpersonal skills with professional interaction at all levels. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of three years of general clinical laboratory experience preferred.
