Associate

Our client is a multi-generational single-family office in NYC. They manage a variety of comingled portfolios as well as an operating company and their private foundations. The investment program is run by a small, two-person team that works closely with their investment committee. The portfolio is in an ongoing, deliberate transition from an endowment-style model to a core-satellite model, in which its public and private equity investments will be concentrated in fewer positions, complemented by diversifying strategies. As a result, they are seeking to expand their capabilities to source and underwrite private co-investments and single-name investments in both the public and private markets, while still retaining the capacity to underwrite third-party investments. They are seeking an Associate to take on primary responsibility for fundamental analysis of current and potential investments in both public and private markets. As the third member of the investment team, they will work closely with the Vice President of Investments and the existing Associate. The successful candidate will own the fundamental research process for the firm and deliver polished, professional work product on their own initiative. This role is based in New York City and will be on a hybrid schedule, with several in-office days per week. Responsibilities Look-through analysis of fund holdings: Evaluate underlying portfolio companies in the Family Office’s active public equity, private equity and venture fund investments to identify names where direct exposure could be increased if the opportunity arises Independently survey market conditions, sectors, supply chains, and peer networks to surface new opportunities for direct investment, public or private Partner with the team’s quantitative Associate during the underwriting and re-underwriting of third-party strategies by independently analyzing positions within these external portfolios to stress-test manager-provided analysis Build, document, and continuously improve the fundamental research process, watchlists, models, and source materials; thoughtfully adopt new technologies, especially AI productivity and research tools, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, verification, and quality control Qualifications Undergraduate degree from a top institution required (mix of quantitative and liberal-arts disciplines) Graduate degree (e.g. MBA or similar) or advanced certifications (e.g., CFA or similar) are a plus Five to ten years of relevant experience in fundamental equity research or underwriting Ideal candidates will combine public-market equity research/underwriting experience with exposure to private equity(venture, growth, or buyout), or vice versa Strong fluency with financial statements and fundamental company analysis Precise, numerate, and obsessively detail-oriented: cares about specific numbers being right Comfort working both top-down (sectors, supply chains, macro themes) and bottom-up (individual companies and securities) Facility with AI tools is required: demonstrated curiosity, functional deployment, and well-calibrated skepticism, all in service of greater research productivity and analytical reach Unimpeachably ethical. Acute sense of personal integrity, discretion, and moral responsibility Analyst first with strong investment judgment Self-motivated and intrinsically driven. Comfortable receiving a clear set of priorities, going off to work,and returning with finished, high-quality output.
