Ophthalmology Technician

Ophthalmology TechnicianThis individual is responsible for assisting the physician(s) with diagnostic and treatment-orientated procedures and administrative tasks.- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required- Prior medical office experience required; ophthalmology setting preferred- Completion of a JRCOMP (Joint Review Committee for Ophthalmic Medical Personnel) approved program for Ophthalmology Assistants- One year work experience under ophthalmologic supervision preferred- Work-up patient, take chief complaints, perform review of system, review systemic and ocular medications and review allergies- Check patient's visual acuity, eye muscle movement, pupil reaction, peripheral vision- Administer dilation drops and other eye drops as needed- Examine front of the eye for infections and dry eye- Perform applanation tonometry- Check patient for proper lens prescription and manually read out eyeglass prescriptions on lensometer- Check color vision- Perform Keratometry readings for cataract surgery calculations- Assist physician(s) for minor office surgical procedures- Triage patient calls and report issues to physician(s)- Keep medical supplies stocked and at par levels- Sterilize instruments for in office procedure use- Input patient data into medical record or EMR as needed- Give clear discharge instructions for medication use, post-surgical procedures and education for any ocular problems or concerns- Assist with Quantel Ultrasound Pachymetry- Assist with ICD-10 coding and billing- Cross train to work in other areas of clinic i.e. scheduling, insurance verification, triage, patient communication (phone, email, text), patient follow up- Other duties as assigned
