Conflict Resolution Manager (Administrator I), Employee and Labor Relations Department

Job Summary:


The Conflict Resolution Manager will be a campus-wide leader in strengthening the campus culture and climate and enlivening a sense of community and belonging. The Conflict Resolution Manager will play a critical role in empowering members of the CSU, San Bernardino community to manage conflict effectively by developing individuals' skills needed for productive dialogue, collaborative relationships, and healthy learning and work environments. The Conflict Resolution Manager will work jointly with campus stakeholders to recommend resolutions for matters of Other Conduct of Concern.


Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced and comprehensive knowledge of conflict resolution theory, strategies, and best practices to address workplace concerns and disputes.
  • Independently assess, design, and implement a wide range of resolution options, including facilitated conversations, conflict coaching, restorative justice practices, alternative dispute resolution methods, informal climate assessments, and mediation.
  • Evaluate complex, sensitive, and high-impact situations using critical thinking, sound judgment, and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Determine appropriate interventions and guide individuals and groups toward constructive, equitable, and sustainable outcomes.
  • Facilitate productive dialogue and support effective communication among employees, managers, and teams.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy while maintaining confidentiality, neutrality, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Ensure all practices, recommendations, and interventions align with institutional policies, legal requirements, and organizational values.
  • Promote and foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace environment through proactive conflict management and resolution strategies.
  • Design, develop, and deliver proactive, high-impact training and professional development programs for members of the campus community.
  • Facilitate workshops and learning opportunities focused on fostering healthy workplace interactions, supporting employee well-being, navigating difficult conversations, and applying constructive conflict resolution strategies.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of adult learning principles, organizational dynamics, and conflict management practices to create engaging and effective training content.
  • Assess organizational and individual development needs to tailor training programs and learning outcomes to diverse audiences.
  • Develop and implement programs that strengthen communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills across the organization.
  • Promote a culture of respect, accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning through educational initiatives and capacity-building efforts.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and recommend improvements based on participant feedback, organizational needs, and emerging best practices.
  • Collaborate with campus partners, leaders, and stakeholders to identify opportunities for professional development and organizational growth.
  • Exercise independent judgment in identifying emerging workplace trends, patterns, and areas of organizational risk.
  • Develop and implement targeted interventions and proactive strategies that promote a respectful, inclusive, collaborative, and high-functioning work environment.
  • Analyze workplace climate concerns and recommend data-informed solutions to address systemic and recurring issues.
  • Develop and maintain assessment plans to evaluate program utilization, effectiveness, and participant satisfaction.
  • Create reporting mechanisms and metrics to monitor trends, measure outcomes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and present regular reports, summaries, and recommendations to university leadership regarding patterns, areas of concern, and organizational climate insights.
  • Establish and maintain a schedule for communicating relevant findings, trends, and recommendations with university leadership and the broader campus community.
  • Ensure reporting practices maintain appropriate confidentiality while supporting transparency, accountability, and organizational improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources departments and campus partners to support and advance university diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives.
  • Promote strategies and programs that foster an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming workplace environment across the university.
  • Support university efforts to attract, recruit, develop, and retain a diverse and highly talented workforce at all levels of the organization.
  • Partner with leadership and stakeholders to identify opportunities that strengthen employee engagement, inclusion, and organizational culture.
  • Provide guidance and support on inclusive workplace practices, communication strategies, and employee relations initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of programs, trainings, and initiatives that advance diversity and inclusion goals and align with institutional values.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of departmental operations and organizational objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:


• Applicants must possess the equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field along with three years of related experience involving employee relations and conflict resolution. Experience in both union and non-union environments.


Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to evaluate complex and sensitive situations, determine the most appropriate intervention, and effectively guide individuals and groups toward constructive, equitable outcomes while maintaining confidentiality, neutrality, and alignment with institutional policies and values.
  • Experience working with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Experience in facilitating training sessions and coaching individuals in one-on-one meetings.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.


Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,667 - $7,792 per month


The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information:


Work status: Full-time/Exempt/At-will


Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.


This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the will of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.


This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The scope of responsibilities for this position includes making or participating in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the individual holding this position is required to file an initial Conflict of Interest: Statement of Economic Interests ("Form 700") within thirty (30 days) from the date of hire and on an annual basis. In addition, the individual holding this position must complete the required conflict of interest training within thirty (30) days of their appointment and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment, subject to the Fair Political Practices Commission regulations.


First considerations will be given to candidates who apply by Monday, June 15, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled; however, the position may close when an adequate number of qualified applications are received.


California State University, San Bernardino, as part of the CSU system, is a State of California Employer. Conditions of Employment

Background Check


Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Drivers License Check


Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.


Mandated Reporter


The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.



Campus Security Authority


This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
