Renaissance Scholars Program Assistant (Part-time)

Description SUMMARY : The purpose of the Renaissance Scholars (RS) Program Assistant is to provide support to Renaissance Scholars with expansion efforts, outreach and recruitment, programming events/activities, benchmark meetings and special projects. The RS Program Assistant will also assist with ongoing program assessment and tracking, support program outreach/community engagement, and help coordinate educational enrichment and community building activities along with supporting administrative and operational tasks. SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety): Outreach, Recruitment, and Special Projects:

• Assist with outreach, recruitment, and application processing efforts for Renaissance
• Scholar and with other departmental outreach efforts as needed (i.e., outreach events, tabling, application processing, student interviews, and verification of documents, etc.)
• Assist with special projects as needed with event planning, coordination, and facilitation (i.e., Student Retreat(s), Monthly meetings, Community Service, Success Seminars, Holiday Social, Celebration of Excellence. etc.)

Programming and Assessment:

• Assist with creating and implementing intervention plans to assist students experiencing personal difficulties and make appropriate referrals to on and off campus resources as needed.
• Assist with program tracking and program assessment.
• Assist with facilitating Benchmark meetings with students.
• Help coordinate educational enrichment and community building activities that foster a positive learning community and leadership development for students.
• Assist with community engagement both on and off campus.

Administrative and Operational Support:

• Assist with various program operational tasks, assessments, and reports for department activities (i.e., scholarship, verification tracking, etc.)
• Supports the administrative and logistical needs required to execute EOP/RS services successfully (i.e., travel, communication, newsletter, RSVPs, room reservations, catering, prepare reports, invoices, etc.).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques
• Principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned.
• Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.

• Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.); Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Canva, etc);
• People Soft, Bronco Direct, Bronco Interactive Dashboards, Cal State Apply.
• Must have ability to travel outside of campus as well as throughout campus. Must protect the confidentiality of student personal information and comply with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
• Must comply with all university procedures and policies; interpret CSU admissions and financial aid guidelines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Enrollment in a Higher Education/Students Affairs Master's program (or related field) is preferred.
• Knowledge and experience working with foster youth, low-income, first-generation and diverse student populations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including phone and in-person, emails, texts, etc.; communicate and listen attentively.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to cultivate strong interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, and staff; and work effectively with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
