Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled AC Electrical Superintendent to lead all alternating-current electrical field activities for the our utility-scale solar project in Matagorda, Texas. This role is responsible for managing the AC and medium-voltage collection systems from the power conversion stations through the project substation and utility point of interconnection, ensuring safe, high-quality, code-compliant, and timely execution.

The AC Electrical Superintendent will provide direct field leadership for AC electrical subcontractors, coordinate closely with the Civil, DC Electrical, Quality, Safety, Commissioning, and Project Management teams, and manage installation, testing, energization, turnover, and closeout of the project’s AC electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead all AC and medium-voltage electrical construction activities for the project, including planning, sequencing, execution, testing, turnover, and closeout.

- Oversee installation of the 34.5 kV-class medium-voltage collection system, underground conduit and duct-bank systems, MV cable, fiber-optic communications, grounding systems, power conversion stations, central inverters, switchgear, reclosers, transformers, metering equipment, and substation interfaces.

- Coordinate AC electrical work with civil construction, including roadway sleeves, trenching, imported fill, PCS mound sequencing, equipment pads, crossings, and restoration of disturbed areas.

- Manage AC electrical subcontractors , foremen, electricians, apprentices, cable-pulling crews, termination crews, testing technicians, and specialty vendors.

- Develop and maintain daily work plans, three-week look-ahead schedules, manpower plans, equipment plans, material forecasts, and installation productivity targets.

- Review IFC drawings , one-line and three-line diagrams, protection and control drawings, cable schedules, conduit schedules, grounding plans, SCADA drawings, relay settings, technical specifications, and vendor installation requirements.

- Verify that AC electrical installations comply with the NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, project specifications, utility standards, AHJ requirements, manufacturer instructions, and Erthos quality expectations.

- Perform and document field inspections for conduit, cable, terminations, grounding, equipment installation, labeling, torque requirements, clearances, phasing, and system readiness.

- Coordinate and witness cable testing, insulation-resistance testing, VLF or hi-pot testing, continuity testing, ground-resistance testing, transformer testing, relay testing, functional testing, point-to-point checks, and commissioning activities.

- Prepare, coordinate, and execute energization permits , switching orders, switching plans, isolation plans, lockout/tagout boundaries, clearance requests, energization checklists, and utility-approved energization procedures.

- Lead pre-energization readiness reviews and ensure that required inspections, test reports, punch-list items, permits, approvals, and turnover documentation are complete before equipment is energized.

- Coordinate with the Owner , Engineer of Record, utility, AHJ, commissioning team, substation contractor, equipment manufacturers, and third-party testing agencies during energization and startup.

- Maintain accurate redlines , as-built information, testing records, daily reports, inspection documentation, equipment records, and turnover packages.

- Enforce electrical safety requirements , including lockout/tagout, arc-flash boundaries, energized-work restrictions, grounding procedures, switching protocols, and stop-work authority.

- Identify field conflicts , schedule risks, quality issues, material shortages, design discrepancies, and subcontractor performance concerns, and drive timely resolution through the appropriate project controls process.

- Support project completion , punch-list closure, final acceptance, demobilization, and transition of the completed electrical systems to Operations and Maintenance.

IRA Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship Compliance

- Coordinate with the Project IRA Compliance Manager to implement and maintain project requirements related to the Inflation Reduction Act, prevailing wage, and registered apprenticeship obligations.

- Monitor AC electrical subcontractor staffing to support compliance with applicable apprentice labor-hour requirements, journeyworker-to-apprentice ratios, wage determinations, classifications, and licensing requirements.

- Verify that electrical subcontractors provide complete and timely certified payrolls, apprentice registration records, daily manpower reports, worker classifications, wage-fringe documentation, and other required compliance records.

- Immediately escalate suspected prevailing-wage underpayments, apprenticeship deficiencies, worker misclassification, missing records, or intentional-disregard concerns to Project Management and the IRA Compliance Manager.

- Support corrective-action and cure processes and ensure subcontractors cooperate with record requests, interviews, audits, and compliance reviews.

Skills & Qualifications

- 7+ years of electrical field leadership experience , including at least 3 years supervising utility-scale solar, renewable-energy, substation, transmission, distribution, or industrial power projects.

- Specific experience delivering 1500 VDC utility-scale solar projects and AC collection systems operating at approximately 34.5 kV is strongly preferred.

- Demonstrated experience overseeing central inverter or power conversion station installation, medium-voltage cable systems, collector substations, and utility interconnections.

- Journeyman or Master Electrician license strongly preferred ;
candidate must understand and comply with applicable Texas electrical licensing and supervision requirements.

- Deep working knowledge of the NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical-safety requirements, lockout/tagout, arc-flash controls, and energized-work procedures.

- Experience preparing or executing utility switching orders , energization permits, clearance requests, switching plans, isolation plans, and energization procedures.

- Hands-on experience with protection and control systems and relay-testing processes involving SEL/Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories relays and comparable equipment from Eaton, ABB/Hitachi Energy, Siemens, GE Vernova, or similar manufacturers.

- Ability to interpret relay logic , protection and control drawings, trip schemes, interlocks, SCADA interfaces, metering diagrams, and commissioning test documentation.

- Strong experience managing electrical subcontractors , large field crews, schedules, testing agencies, vendors, and utility representatives.

- Understanding of IRA prevailing-wage and registered-apprenticeship requirements , including certified payroll, worker classifications, wage determinations, apprentice documentation, labor-hour tracking, and ratio compliance.

- Familiarity with Procore , Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office is preferred.

- Excellent problem-solving , planning, leadership, written communication, and field-coordination skills.

- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced EPC construction environment and remain on-site for the duration of the assignment.

- Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus .

Location and Travel Requirements

This is a fully on-site role assigned to our newest utility scale project in Matagorda, Texas. Candidates must be willing and able to remain at the project location throughout construction, testing, energization, commissioning, and turnover . Future assignments may require travel to Erthos construction sites nationwide and potentially internationally.
