Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist — Imaging & Patient Care

Position Summary To safely and efficiently acquire diagnostic ultrasounds and do so in a polite and professional manner. Excellence in Practice Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams and procedures with correct positioning, technique, and equipment operations. Perform clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations. Deliver ultrasound exams and procedures efficiently and timely. Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Use independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Analyze sonograms, synthesize sonographic information, medical history and communicate findings to the appropriate physician. Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer’s care. Assist radiologist with procedures, such as biopsies, as necessary. Prepare preliminary reports and contact referring physicians when required, according to established procedures. Report all equipment problems to appropriate personnel such as the radiology manager. Assist with the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory. Maintain a daily log of patients seen and complete exam billing forms. Coordinate with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided. Report equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member. Perform related duties as required, such as filing, answering phones, scheduling patients, ordering supplies, stocking supplies, cleaning, etc. Use proper mode of transport for patients. Organize daily work schedule and perform related clerical duties. Assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonographic area/department. Cooperate with other personnel in the proper conduct of the department to ensure a smoothly functioning and efficient overall department. Address problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problems. Cooperate in the schedule to ensure sufficient staffing. Coordinate work schedule with Departmental Director and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage. Assist, as directed by the radiology manager, in all phases of quality assurance and performance improvement. Administer oral, rectal, and IV contrast as directed by radiologist and/or policy, demonstrating knowledge of purpose, dosage, route and adverse reactions. Cooperate with cross‑training efforts for other technologists as directed by radiology manager under state and national regulatory rules. Essential Job Requirements Education : Successfully completed and graduated from an approved school of Ultrasound or radiologic technology and be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Experience : Must have at least 1 year experience in ultrasound including but not limited to general, OB/Gyn, small parts and some vascular (carotid, venous, ABIs) ultrasound exams. Echocardiography experience a plus. License Requirements : Must maintain registration with ARDMS.
