Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the direction of a Child Life Specialists, child life assistants help with planning, implementing and evaluating patient recreational activities. These interventions occur at the bedside, during special events, and in common patient activity areas (playrooms, teen room, media room, etc.) The goal of the child life assistant is to provide opportunities for play and to support the child life department through recreational opportunities

• Assists Child Life Specialist in determining and facilitating activities for the bedside and activity rooms.
• Assists with special events and departmental programming, helps with advertising events to patients and families, assists patients with getting to events, or bedside visits. Helps with set up and clean-up of events
• Provides instruction, guidance, and assists with training to Child Life Volunteers
• Responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and appropriately stocked activity rooms.
• Supports the supply process thorough ordering, receiving, organizing, and distributing child life supplies (toys, activities, books, etc.) within budget guidelines.
• Assists with the donation process by collecting donations, moving them to the child life storage area, and appropriately sorting.
• Monitors use and condition of supplies, equipment and materials, including donated and purchased items, to ensure safety.
• Provides services at bedside to support development and meet recreational needs by providing activities for patients and families.
• Maintains required patient care documentation and reporting of play session

What qualifications you will need:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: Two years of experience working with children

Equivalency: An Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
