POSITION PROFILE

Primary responsibility is to perform various manual labor functions and traffic control as assigned within work sites for maintenance and construction projects. Operates assigned equipment, and performs other assigned general labor duties. Seasonal position may go from October to December depending on weather and projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

• Assists with a variety of projects within the Road Department.
• Exercises good safety working procedures and practices.
• Performs manual labor, including heavy lifting and shoveling under the close supervision of maintenance and traffic series technician.
• Assists work crews with vegetation, drainage, traffic, new sign and base installation, and surfacing. Able to work varying schedules and works overtime as needed.
• Works cooperatively as a crew member. Reads and interprets written instructions and documents and follows oral instructions.
• Applies symbols to roadways with paint, buttons, and/or plastic. Straightens, brushes, washes, and general maintenance of roadway signs.
• In regards to asphalt projects could possible use equipment such as the roller and brusher.
• Responsible for cleanliness of assigned equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• May be required to operate a sweeper and roller.

• EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Mechanical repair knowledge desired
• Must pass a criminal background investigation and pre-employment drug test successfully.
• Must possess a valid current Utah driver's license.
• Current CDL holder preferred but not required.
• Asphalt equipment experience is helpful.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• The majority of work is performed outdoors, with exposure to extremes of heat and cold and inclement weather. Workers are also subject to the hazards associated with road work sites and working with/around vehicles and tools. The work environment can be very loud.
• Frequently lifts and/or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds such as tools, equipment, supplies, etc.

• Must be able to access all levels of a construction site/building/structure, traverse uneven terrain, climb a ladder, and enter and exit from vehicles.
• Manually operates all department vehicles, tools, and equipment.
