Solutions Engineer

We're looking for a Solutions Engineer to support presales and post-sales technical engagement across Directus (our open-source data platform) and Monospace (our unified backend / data federation layer for enterprise applications).

You'll partner with Account Executives to run technical discovery, build proof-of-concepts and demos, and help prospects understand how our products fit into their existing data architecture.

This is a presales-first role, but the relationship doesn't end when the deal closes. Post sales, you'll stay engaged in an advisory capacity: partnering with clients to ensure they're getting real value, spotting expansion and upsell opportunities as their needs grow, and helping troubleshoot architecture questions as they scale. The throughline for the whole role, pre- and post-sale, is understanding the client's actual pain points and collaborating toward mutual success. Client success is our success.

What You'll Do

• Own technical discovery and solutioning for prospective customers alongside an Account Executive, translating business requirements into a technical narrative that solves the client pain points.
• Build and maintain demo environments for Directus and Monospace, including scenario-specific demos tailored to a prospect's stack.
• Scope and run proof-of-concepts, defining success criteria up front and driving them to a clear technical decision.
• Design reusable frameworks such as demo templates, POC playbooks, and discovery question sets.
• Advise on data architecture including database design, schema modeling, REST API design, and how a prospect's existing systems (SQL, NoSQL, custom data sources) will connect via Directus or Monospace's adapter model. You're advising and architecting here, not building the client's system.
• Read and reference source code to answer deep technical questions, evaluate edge cases, and build credibility with engineering-heavy buying committees.
• Produce public technical content such as blog posts, architecture write-ups, comparison pieces, with regular LinkedIn presence (short posts, engaging with the community)
• Represent the company at 2 to 4 conferences per year, whether speaking, staffing a booth, or running workshops.
• Respond to RFPs/RFIs and security questionnaires, as needed.
• Feed customer and prospect insight back to product on gaps, edge cases, and competitive positioning.

What We're Looking For

• Presales, sales engineering, or solutions engineering experience, with a technical emphasis
• Comfort in writing TypeScript/JavaScript to build demos and POCs
• Familiarity with Docker and Cloud Service Deployments
• Solid grounding in data architecture, such as designing schemas, working with SQL and NoSQL databases, building or integrating with REST/GraphQL APIs, and understanding how custom data adapters/connectors work
• Ability to read and navigate source code to self-serve answers rather than always escalating to engineering (Rust experience is a plus, not a requirement)
• A track record of creating things other people use, like a demo framework, an internal playbook, a well-read blog post, or a conference talk
• Strong comfort level in public speaking, writing, posting, engaging on LinkedIn or similar.
• Experience partnering tightly with an AE in a selling motion
• Understanding deal cycles, qualification, and when to bring in technical firepower vs. when to hold back

Nice to Have

• Experience with headless CMS, data platforms, iPaaS/data federation, or API management tools
• Familiarity with Rust
• Experience selling into technical/developer-heavy buying committees
• Existing public technical writing portfolio or speaking experience
