Job Description
The Maintenance Technician ensures the reliable operation of manufacturing equipment and facilities within a food production environment. Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing facility with multiple shift options, including a 1st shift (approximately 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday), 2nd shift (approximately 3:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday), 3rd shift (approximately 11:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday), and a weekend 12-hour shift (Friday through Sunday, approximately 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.), with the possibility of additional hours and up to six working days per week depending on production needs. The work environment involves daily exposure to typical industrial conditions such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, noise, vibration, and occasional poor lighting. There is seasonal exposure to weather elements, including extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity, particularly when working near dock areas or external equipment. The position involves working around mechanical equipment and associated hazards, including forklifts, chemical exposure, electrical systems, and other industrial risks, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE use. Physical demands include standing and walking throughout the office, warehouse, and plant; lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; and frequent reaching, kneeling, crawling, twisting, and use of fine dexterity. Clear vision, hearing, and professional verbal communication are necessary to coordinate work and maintain safety in an active production environment. Appropriate industrial attire and PPE are required to support safety, cleanliness, and compliance with food manufacturing standards.

Job Description
The Maintenance Technician ensures the reliable operation of manufacturing equipment and facilities within a food production environment. This role combines strong mechanical and electrical skills, systematic troubleshooting, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, sanitary, and compliant workplace. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, support production uptime, and help sustain high standards of food safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on production machinery, including conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and refrigeration systems, to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
- Conduct regular inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component checks so equipment meets production requirements and operates within specifications.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
- Respond promptly to emergency, unscheduled maintenance needs during manufacturing operations and perform troubleshooting and repairs to prevent production disruptions.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the production areas, supporting compliance with sanitation standards and food safety regulations.
- Monitor and repair facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, to maintain a safe, comfortable, and efficient work environment.
- Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe work practices in and around mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Participate in safety training programs and contribute ideas and feedback to support continuous improvement of safety initiatives and practices.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as GMP, HACCP, and OSHA, as well as internal policies related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, parts usage, and inventory in the computerized maintenance management system.
- Document equipment repairs, parts replacements, and maintenance procedures to build and maintain detailed equipment history and performance data.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and quality, to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize impact on operations.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, to support production demands and respond to urgent maintenance needs.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- At least 5 years of related experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferably within an automated food processing plant.
- Minimum 5 years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining both electrical and mechanical systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven troubleshooting skills for industrial equipment.
- Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs on PLCs, relay logic, and logic controllers, including 480V, 220V, and 110V AC single-phase and three-phase systems, as well as DC systems.
- Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting, including platforms such as Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
- Experience with HMI development and SCADA systems to support automated control and monitoring.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, including motors, drives, and industrial sensors.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to electrical and control systems.
- Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical repairs on hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and industrial schematics.
- Experience using a computer to support and record documentation in a computerized maintenance management system.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail in a fast-paced production environment.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work productively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing priorities and technologies.
- Hands-on experience with industrial electrical troubleshooting, including 3-phase systems and complex control circuits.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLCs, PLC troubleshooting, and related automation hardware and software.
- Experience with industrial welding in a maintenance setting.
- Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics used in automated and semi-automated production equipment.
- Comfort working with industrial control systems, HMI interfaces, and SCADA platforms.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple work orders and maintenance priorities.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and maintenance practices as equipment and processes evolve.
