CDL Drivers

Hawaiian Linen Supply is seeking a dependable and safety-focused CDL Driver to support our transportation operations in Honolulu. This position is responsible for safely transporting clean and soiled linen between our facility and customer locations while providing excellent customer service and complying with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Position Summary

The CDL Driver is responsible for driving to and from designated customer locations, transporting soiled linen and delivering clean linen products while verifying loads and providing professional service to our customers.

The position requires the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle and compliance with Company policies and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The CDL Driver typically performs a variety of duties, which may include:

1. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and promptly report identified safety or mechanical concerns.
2. Assist dispatchers and other team members by positioning linen carts in the appropriate staging areas and covering carts with plastic when required.
3. Load clean linen into trucks and verify the accuracy of loads against delivery tickets, route information, or other applicable documentation.
4. Safely operate Company vehicles to designated customer locations and unload clean linen carts.
5. Pick up soiled linen and other designated items from customer locations and transport them safely back to the facility.
6. Interact professionally and courteously with hotel staff, customers, and other individuals encountered while performing assigned duties.
7. Promptly communicate customer concerns, complaints, special requests, or service issues to the appropriate Supervisor or Manager.
8. Complete required trip sheets, delivery records, and other documentation accurately, including stops made and carts delivered or retrieved.
9. Promptly report mechanical problems, vehicle damage, accidents, incidents, injuries, or other concerns involving Company vehicles or equipment.
10. Promptly communicate delays affecting pickups or deliveries, including vehicle breakdowns, weather, traffic, customer access issues, or other circumstances.
11. Operate lift gates and other assigned vehicle equipment safely and in accordance with established procedures.
12. Follow assigned routes, delivery schedules, customer instructions, and applicable customer safety and delivery requirements.
13. Perform all driving duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local requirements governing the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles.
14. Maintain a professional appearance and represent the Company appropriately while operating Company vehicles and interacting with customers and the public.
15. Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of assigned vehicles and promptly report concerns requiring attention.
16. Follow all Company safety, attendance, customer service, and operational policies and procedures.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or Manager to meet operational and customer needs.

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

• Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or Class B, appropriate for the assigned vehicle.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must meet applicable requirements for operating a commercial motor vehicle.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain required DOT medical certification, when applicable.
• Must meet applicable DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Must be dependable and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and comply with customer-specific delivery requirements.

Job-Specific Skills

• Commercial driving experience preferred.
• Ability to follow maps, GPS, routes, and directions to reach destinations safely and efficiently.
• Ability to safely maneuver commercial vehicles, including backing into loading areas and other restricted spaces.
• Ability to safely operate truck lift gates and related equipment.
• Ability to complete basic calculations and required delivery or transportation documentation.
• Ability to organize and prioritize deliveries and pickups based on assigned routes and operational needs.

Work Hours

• Must have scheduling flexibility based on operational and customer needs.
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays when scheduled.
• Start and end times may vary depending on routes, customer requirements, traffic, workload, and operational needs.

Physical Requirements

The position requires extended periods of driving as well as frequent entry into and exit from commercial vehicles. Employees may be required to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and maneuver linen carts and other equipment.

The position may require pushing or pulling carts loaded with linen weighing up to approximately 700 pounds. Appropriate equipment, techniques, and assistance should be used as required to safely move loads.

Wage Information

• The starting wage is no less than $28.50 per hour.
• Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the employee's regular rate of pay, when applicable. At a $28.50 hourly rate, the overtime rate is $42.75 per hour.
• A higher starting rate may be offered based on experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors.
• Our Company's pay period starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday. A single workweek will be used to compute wages due.
• Payroll is processed weekly, with employees generally paid on the Thursday following the end of the pay period.
• Rate increases and/or bonuses may be offered at the Company's discretion based on individual factors such as performance, skill, experience, and tenure.
• The Company will make deductions from an employee's paycheck as required by law.
• Employees may elect to participate in available benefit plans, including medical, drug, vision, dental, FSA, and other voluntary insurance plans, for which an employee share of premiums may be deducted from payroll.
• Voluntary deductions will be appropriately authorized.

The working environment includes commercial vehicles, customer properties, loading and unloading areas, and an industrial commercial laundry facility. Employees may encounter noise, heat, rain, changing weather conditions, traffic, moving vehicles and equipment, fumes, airborne particles, wet areas, and frequent movement of linen carts.

Personal Protective Equipment may be required for certain areas or tasks.

• Follow lawful employer safety and health rules.
• Wear and/or use required Personal Protective Equipment as instructed.
• Remain aware of pedestrians, vehicles, carts, loading areas, and other potential hazards.
• Report hazardous conditions promptly to management.
• Immediately report vehicle accidents, incidents, injuries, or property damage in accordance with Company procedures.
• Report any job-related injury or illness to management and seek appropriate treatment promptly.
