JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Construction Assistant Project Manager to support the Project Manager through all phases of adaptive reuse and multifamily renovation projects, from pre-construction through punch list and closeout.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented construction professional who wants to deepen their experience in Chicago construction while helping keep projects organized, documented, and moving forward. The ideal candidate will be comfortable coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and field teams while escalating project issues and decisions to the Project Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the Project Manager throughout the full project lifecycle, including pre-construction, construction, punch list, and closeout.
• Assist with daily coordination of subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel.
• Conduct regular site visits with the Superintendent to track project progress, quality, logistics, and outstanding items.
• Identify and escalate project issues to the Project Manager.
• Assist with Chicago permitting, inspections, and code-related items, escalating questions and interpretations to the Project Manager.
• Coordinate information flow between architects, engineers, subcontractors, and other trade partners.
• Prepare project updates for developers and ownership for Project Manager review.
• Maintain and manage RFI and submittal logs , including tracking shop drawings and expediting responses.
• Keep plan sets, project documentation, and project files current and organized.
• Maintain change-order logs, collect pricing and supporting documentation, and prepare proposed changes for Project Manager review.
• Assist with subcontractor buyout, bid comparisons, and scope reviews during pre-construction.
• Update project schedules as directed by the Project Manager, distribute schedules, and identify potential delays.
• Track budget items, commitments, and pay-application documentation while identifying potential cost and scope risks.
• Prepare meeting minutes, project status reports, and project logs, and follow up on open items through completion.
• Support punch lists, warranties, as-builts, and closeout documentation.
• Promote accountability, safety, organization, and continuous improvement across the project team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3+ years of experience supporting construction projects, preferably with a general contractor, in a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role.
• Experience with adaptive reuse, multifamily renovation, or comparable commercial construction is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of Chicago building codes, permitting procedures, inspections, and local construction practices .
• Ability to coordinate subcontractors, design professionals, and field personnel on urban construction projects.
• Strong understanding of construction schedules, cost tracking, document control, RFIs, submittals, and project coordination.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Ability to identify potential project issues and escalate them appropriately.
• Proficiency with construction management and project software such as Procore, Microsoft Project, and Bluebeam .

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field .
• Experience with historic preservation or landmark building projects .
• LEED Accreditation or familiarity with sustainable construction practices.
• Experience with adaptive reuse and renovation projects in the Chicago market.
