Locums Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician

A Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo Texas is seeking a Locums Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician to provide ongoing coverage in a high-volume, well-supported surgical program. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse trauma and acute care surgery caseload.

Position Highlights

Facility: 495-bed acute care hospital and Level II Trauma Center

Ongoing locum opportunity

Shift-based coverage in a collaborative multidisciplinary practice

Practice Details

The program provides comprehensive trauma and acute care surgery services with annual volumes including:

Approximately 1,618 trauma activations

Over 1,000 trauma admissions

Nearly 500 acute care surgery operative cases annually

Coverage includes:

In-house trauma coverage

Acute Care Surgery (ACS) coverage

Backup call coverage as scheduled

24Hour shifts including call

30-minute callback response time when on backup call

Responsibilities

Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients

Perform operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries

Provide acute care surgery consultations and procedures

Participate in trauma activations and multidisciplinary patient care

Collaborate with emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, hospitalists, and surgical staff

Document patient encounters accurately using the facility's electronic medical record

Qualifications

Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery

Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred

Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain licensure

Current ATLS certification

Demonstrated trauma and acute care surgery experience

Strong clinical decision-making skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
