Maintenance Worker - Streets

Job TitleOperates and maintains City's streets, public facilities and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Performs maintenance, construction, and repair of City's infrastructure, equipment, facilities, and properties that are part of the Public Works and Utilities Divisions.Essential DutiesThis job description is intended to represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.Maintains and repairs City streets, including patching, seal-coating, and sweeping streets, repairing and replacing curbing and painting curbing, crosswalks and parking lots.Plows snow, sands and performs snow removal on City streets, sidewalks, and parking lots.Performs daily maintenance of City's streets and water and wastewater system.Operates light and heavy equipment, including forklift, skid loader, air compressor, dump truck, sweeper, plow trucks, tanker truck, snow blower, sand truck, chipper, frond-end loader, bucket truck, and lawnmowers.Operates hand and power tools.Performs public property maintenance, sign repair, minor vehicle repairs.Trims and removes trees and brush.Possess and displays working knowledge of City, State, and Federal safety rules, OSHA requirements and CDL license.Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of all City department policies and procedures in order to help facilitate compliance with such policies and procedures by all assigned personnel.Demonstrates by example the service excellence and integrity expected from all City Staff.Develops respectful and cooperative relationships with co-workers, the public and all outside contacts and constituencies that help establish, maintain and enhance Mound's reputation as a well-managed City.Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of street maintenance techniques and procedures.Skill in operating and maintaining heavy equipment and machinery.Ability to read and interpret street maps and construction plans.Proficiency in using hand and power tools safely and effectively.Knowledge of traffic control procedures and safety protocols.Ability to work in various weather conditions.Strong communication skills for interacting with team members and the public.Problem-solving skills for diagnosing and addressing maintenance issues.Ability to maintain accurate records and reports of maintenance activitiesApplying local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations;Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.QualificationsMinimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience: One or more years' experience in municipal public works, building or construction trades or heavy equipment operations Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position may be considered. Completion of an accredited Public Works Maintenance Technician Certificate could be considered equivalent for work experience. Required Licenses/Certifications: Minnesota Class B Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain within 6 months. Desirable Qualifications:Two or more years' experience in municipal public works, building or construction trades or heavy equipment operationsPrevious experience maintaining storm sewer system structures, watercourses, and treatment devicesExperience using automated work and asset management systems to track assets, conditions, and prioritize and schedule workSnow and ice control, plowing, salt/sand operations experiencePhysical Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
