Salary: In accordance with the Hancock County Schools salary schedule for professionals, commensurate with experience and degree level.
Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or his or her designee and in accordance with WV State Code § 1 SA-2-12, State Board Policy 5310.
General Job Description: Assists in the development of and administers instructional and other programs at the high school; supervises and evaluates work of teaching, clerical and other staff; consults with parents, community members and stakeholders; offers guidance to individual students concerning their problems; resolves disciplinary and other problems; develops policy and procedure and promotes their enforcement at appropriate level; supervises and participates in scheduling, requisitioning of supplies and equipment, record keeping and reporting and conducting of fire drills; calls and leads meetings, discussions and other gatherings.
Qualifications:
Education: Possession of a Master's Degree in Education (Education Administration or Educational leadership preferred); appropriate valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate; either possess or be eligible for a West Virginia Principal's Certificate in respective grades.
Experience: Evidence of successful administrative experience in an approved school Successful applicant will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Staff relations, including, but not limited to, the development and use of skills necessary to make a positive use of faculty senates, to manage faculty and staff with courtesy and mutual respect, coach and motivate employees and to build consensus as a means of management; School community leadership qualities, including, but not limited to, the ability to organize and leverage community initiative, communicate effectively, work effectively with local school improvement councils, manage change, resolve conflict and reflect the highest personal values; Instructional Leadership, Educational proficiencies, including, but not limited to, knowledge of curriculum, instructional techniques, student learning styles, student assessment criteria, school personnel performance, evaluation skills and family issues; and Administrative skills, including, but not limited to, organizational, fiscal, public policy and total quality management skills and techniques.
General Functions and Responsibilities: This individual is responsible for administering educational and other programs at a middle school; performs related work as required. Considerable knowledge of educational principles, practices, methods, techniques and materials; good knowledge of education administration; good knowledge of training and supervision, as well as data analysis. Ability to develop and administer educational programs at a middle school; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others; ability to express oneself clearly, both orally and in writing. Is responsible to make a concentrated effort to keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by reading and studying professional journals, attending professional meetings and conferences related to improving the curriculum in his/her school, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. Every effort should be made to study the Global 21 initiatives including modern and effective trends of curriculum development and be aware of the latest trends and past curriculum procedures which are the most effective for the improvement for children of all achievement levels.
Specific Administrative Responsibilities: Implement all federal, state, and county policies and procedures. Provide instructional leadership and support within the school building. Provide purpose and direction for school/county. Maintain a professional appearance. Create a climate conducive to teaching and learning. Demonstrate cognitive skills to gather analyze and synthesize information to reach goals. Organize and delegate to accomplish goals. Assume responsibility for assisting in the general supervision of all school activities involving pupils, teachers, and other school personnel. Implement a system to monitor and report student progress and school-wide discipline programs. Supervise the maintenance of accurate records on discipline, attendance and grades. Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline according to due process for the rights of students. Establish and implement a school improvement process. Establish positive public and employee communications relations. Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and effective learning climate in the school. Evaluate personnel under his/her supervision (WV Policy 5310, HCBOE Policy GNC-P). Maintain and improve professional work habits and skills. Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the building. Perform all or any additional reasonable job-related responsibilities assigned by Superintendent/designee.
