Seasonal Tech Mosquito

Position: Mosquito Technician Location: Franklin County Pay: $16.50 per hour, range $16.50 - $25.00 (varies with experience and location) Responsibilities Routinely inspect mosquito breeding habitats for larval presence and search for new potential breeding habitats. Assess each site and apply the appropriate control technique—no action, source reduction, public education, or larvicide (primarily bacterial-based). Install and retrieve monitoring devices to surveil mosquito populations. Morphologically identify and count mosquito species using dissecting microscopes. Respond to resident complaints by inspecting properties, treating habitats, and communicating directly with residents. Record all findings and control activities on mobile tablets in VDCI’s database as required. Be familiar with chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and apply chemicals according to label specifications. Follow proper safety and spill procedures at all times and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Communicate respectfully, honestly and knowledgeably with residents during inspections and other public relations activities. Operate all equipment safely and effectively. Respond quickly to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned. Work outdoors in potentially hazardous conditions—weather, uneven terrain, pesticides, dust, noise, biting insects, hazardous plants, and animals. Lift and use chemicals and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Safely operate a motor vehicle and maintain all equipment clean and ready for use. Work independently after a training period. Qualifications Attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to learn about pest control and public health. High school diploma or GED; related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver’s license from the state of residence. Basic math skills—addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to follow mixing instructions on product labels. Customer‑facing experience preferred.
