Job Title: Mechanical Assembler – Pump Systems

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling large, complex mechanical pump systems used in truck applications, particularly for fire and emergency vehicles. You will read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions, then use a variety of tools and fixtures to build, test, and inspect pump assemblies. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and safety in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical pump systems and related components according to blueprints, schematics, and detailed work instructions.

• Use hand tools, power tools, presses, assembly fixtures, and test fixtures to complete builds safely and efficiently.

• Perform basic assembly, fitting, and wiring as necessary to build a wide range of sub-assemblies and finished products.

• Build products to detailed procedures, cross sections, or from general instructions using accepted mechanical practices.

• Install components required to inspect and test products, including connecting, aligning, pressing, fitting, setting, and adjusting for proper clearance.

• Use appropriate tools and equipment to attain correct alignment, fits, clearances, and specifications as required.

• Perform functional testing of assembled units to ensure proper operation and compliance with specifications.

• Remove test components from all types of pumps as required and prepare units for final processing.

• Inspect components and finished products for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.

• Detect and correct errors in assembly, making repairs and adjustments as required to pass inspection.

• Document defective materials, parts, or assemblies in designated logs and reporting systems.

• Use sound mechanical judgment to independently install components with limited instruction.

• Troubleshoot and repair assemblies when issues arise during build or test.

• Use a variety of hand, air, hydraulic, and testing tools and equipment safely and correctly.

• Report any safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.

• Transport products, assemblies, and related equipment to designated work areas as needed.

• Clean and perform minor repairs on assembly equipment to keep it in proper working condition.

• Maintain an organized, clutter-free, and clean assembly area, ensuring tools and materials are stored in proper locations.

• Demonstrate consistent attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset throughout the assembly and testing process.

Essential Skills

• 1–5 years of manufacturing and assembly experience preferred.

• Proven mechanical aptitude with the ability to work on complex mechanical assemblies.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and detailed work instructions.

• Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools in a manufacturing or assembly environment.

• Experience using assembly and test fixtures, measuring instruments, and testing instruments such as measuring tapes and gauges.

• Familiarity with mechanical assembly practices, including fitting, aligning, pressing, and adjusting components.

• Ability to perform basic wiring as needed for pump assemblies and sub-assemblies.

• Experience working with hydraulics or hydraulic-related systems.

• Capability to operate cranes or lifting equipment as required for handling larger components.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to detect and correct errors in assembly and testing.

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical assemblies when issues arise.

• Comfort working with production tools and equipment in a manufacturing environment.

• Commitment to following safety procedures and reporting safety or maintenance concerns promptly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience assembling large, complex mechanical pump systems or similar industrial equipment.

• Ability to work from general instructions using good mechanical judgment when detailed procedures are not available.

• Experience using air, hydraulic, and testing tooling and equipment.

• Capability to work both independently and as part of a team in a production setting.

• Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean, orderly, and efficient work area.

• Comfort documenting defects, issues, and test results in logs or electronic reporting systems.

Work Environment

This position is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing plant, providing a comfortable and consistent work environment throughout the year. You will work at a dedicated station equipped with the tools, parts, and equipment needed to assemble and test pump systems, including hand tools, power tools, air and hydraulic tools, cranes, presses, and various measuring and testing instruments. Standard hours are first shift, Monday through Friday, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with current operations running from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and some Saturdays for overtime as needed. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with expectations that workstations remain orderly, free of clutter, and that equipment is kept in good working condition.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ocala, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
