Job Title: Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) – CVOR We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) to join our Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) team. The ideal candidate will support complex cardiac surgeries, provide hands‑on intraoperative assistance, and ensure exceptional patient outcomes. This role requires advanced clinical expertise, precision, and strong coordination with surgeons and CVOR staff. Key Responsibilities Intraoperative First Assist Duties Provide direct first assist support during cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures. Perform tasks such as tissue handling, exposure, suturing, hemostasis, and wound closure. Work closely with cardiothoracic surgeons to maintain surgical flow and efficiency. Pre‑Operative Preparation Review surgical plans, consent forms, and patient histories before procedures. Prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment for CVOR operations. Assist in positioning and prepping patients for complex cardiac surgeries. Post‑Operative Care Support patient transition from the operating room to CVICU/Recovery. Monitor hemodynamic stability and postoperative surgical outcomes. Document surgical findings, interventions, and progress according to protocols. Clinical Expertise & Safety Maintain a sterile environment and uphold strict infection control standards. Respond promptly to intraoperative complications or emergencies. Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, AORN guidelines, and RNFA practice standards. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with CVOR surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and OR nursing teams. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to OR nurses and surgical techs. Participate in case reviews, debriefings, and team meetings. Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license. Certified RNFA with accredited program completion. Minimum 2–5+ years of experience in CVOR, cardiac surgery, or critical care. Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, instrumentation, and surgical procedures.
