Assistant Director - Annual Giving

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus two or more years of fundraising experience.

• Progressive responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

• Ability to proactively, effectively, and efficiently manage a program portfolio working tactfully with a diverse group of internal and external constituents.

• Strong writing, public speaking and presentation skills.

• A highly collaborative mindset with success in working in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Annual giving fundraising in a higher education setting, preference given to those with experience in a business school setting.

• Evidence of experience or significant professional development experience with a business, institutional advancement, nonprofit, or higher education focus.

• Innovative, strategic thinker, with an ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.

• High-level confidence in decision-making, good judgement, and innovative and creative problem-solving skills.

• Enjoys working independently and as part of a team on multiple, large and complex projects.

• Experience in development writing.

• Ability to develop, communicate, and execute strategies with a clear metrics of success.

• Interaction with senior-level executives and professionals.

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving will support the growth and refinement of the Carlson School of Management’s comprehensive annual giving program to grow alumni and friend giving to support programs across the Carlson School. This role is responsible for the execution of various annual giving programs under the management and supervision of the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. The Alumni Relations and Annual Giving team is responsible for growing an active, informed, engaged, and philanthropic alumni body. This person is a critical member of the advancement team, ensuring a strong base of charitable giving to enable the Carlson School to further its ambitious goals.

Annual Giving Program Fundraising and Stewardship (70%)

• Assist the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving in the planning and execution of a multi-segment, multi-channel annual giving program, including acquisition, retention, and stewardship in an effort to grow donors and dollars raised for the Carlson School.
• Write, edit, and execute targeted solicitations, including print and digital solicitations with a focus on raising money for the Dean’s Excellence Fund.
• Plan and execute comprehensive solicitation campaigns including Give to the Max Day, specialty giving campaigns, and other initiatives as needed.
• Create, manage, and steward a young alumni recurring giving program, including digital, direct mail, phone, text, and social media channels.
• Implement a strategy, developed by the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, to educate students and create awareness about the importance of philanthropy, including Gopher Gratitude and Class Gift program.
• Execute overall stewardship program for annual giving donors, in partnership with the Director of Benefactor Relations.. Monitor and analyze data to improve fundraising results.
• Work with the U of M Foundation staff to manage project deadlines, mailing list segments, printing, and mailing of 3-4 centralized mailings per year.

• Serve as a Carlson School liaison with the U of M Foundation annual giving team.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, serve as an annual giving resource for Carlson School units/programs. Maintain and update the annual giving website. Provide content for other annual giving communications as needed (handouts, magazine, social media, newsletters, etc). Supervise a student worker responsible for supporting the annual giving program. Support additional projects as requested by the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.

Investor’s Circle Program Management (30%)

• Execute the Investor's Circle program, the Carlson School’s leadership annual giving program, targeting gifts of $1000-$50,000, under the direction and management of the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.
• Responsible for supporting and driving innovative marketing, retention and participation efforts to grow and sustain the Investor’s Circle.
• Responsible for record keeping and reporting of all Investor’s Circle members and their contributions.
• Under the direction of the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual giving, execute a stewardship plan for Investor’s Circle members.
• Maintain and update the Investors Circle website.
• Provide content for other Investors Circle communications as needed (magazine, social media, newsletters, etc)
