Senior Controls & Automation Engineer, Kansas City Plant

Job Location : Kansas City Plant Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Controls & Automation Engineer to join the engineering team at our Kansas City Plant. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement control systems and automation solutions that support the startup and qualification of a new manufacturing platform. You will improve line performance, product quality, and safety through robust and scalable control system design. Responsibilities Develop and implement control strategies that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. Design and program automation systems using PLCs, SCADA, and associated technologies to improve productivity and system performance. Integrate equipment and control systems across the line, including machine-to-machine communication and higher-level data systems. Apply data analytics, digital tools, or advanced control methods (e.g., AI/ML where applicable) to improve process capability and decision‑making. Analyze system performance, identify root causes of issues, and implement sustainable improvements. Partner with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and project teams to identify automation opportunities and deliver improvements. Develop and maintain technical documentation (system specifications, standards, and user guides). Train plant personnel on system operation and support. Ensure all systems meet applicable electrical, machine safety, and corporate standards, promoting safe work practices. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field. Electrical or Automation Engineering preferred. Experience: 5+ years of experience in industrial controls and automation. Technical Skills: Experience with PLCs (ControlLogix preferred), HMI/SCADA systems, process control (continuous and/or batch), instrumentation, drives, motion control, vision systems, industrial networks, system architecture, server infrastructure, virtualization, electrical design standards, and safety practices. Manufacturing Environment: Experience working in a production environment, change management, version control, system validation and startup support, and handling multiple priorities in a fast‑paced setting. Work Discipline & Safety Mindset: Demonstrates strong ownership, attention to detail, and adherence to standards with consistent application of electrical and machine safety practices. Leadership & Collaboration: 5+ years of experience collaborating across teams, prioritizing work, developing execution plans, and supporting others. Communication: Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and across teams. Work Conditions Office 5 days a week in person at our Kansas City Plant in KC, Kansas. 10% travel required (internal and domestic).
