Job Details

A well-established Bethesda-based real estate development and construction organization is seeking a hands-on **Full-Charge Bookkeeper / Senior Accountant** to support its custom homes and general contracting division.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys owning the full accounting cycle, working independently, and being part of a small, collaborative organization.

### What You'll Do

* Manage full-cycle accounting for the custom homes/construction division
* Process accounts payable, vendor payments, and accounts receivable
* Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules
* Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
* Perform month-end and year-end close activities
* Complete bank and account reconciliations
* Process payroll and payroll tax filings for approximately 10 employees and contractors
* Process ACH payments and assist with cash management
* Support tax reporting and compliance activities
* Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
* Assist with construction-related accounting and general contracting activities
* Work closely with ownership and accounting leadership on financial reporting
* Organize and clean up accounting files
* Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflows
* Help bring greater structure and efficiency to existing accounting procedures

### What We're Looking For

* 7+ years of full-cycle accounting or full-charge bookkeeping experience
* **Recent Sage 300 or comparable recent Sage ERP experience is required**
* Experience in construction, custom home building, general contracting, real estate development, or a related industry
* Strong experience with AP, AR, payroll, payroll taxes, reconciliations, financial statements, and month-end close
* Experience maintaining the general ledger and preparing financial reports
* Ability to independently manage accounting responsibilities for a business unit or small company
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
* Comfortable working in a hands-on environment where you may need to identify and solve problems independently
* Willingness to work with established, sometimes paper-based processes while also identifying practical opportunities for improvement
* Bachelor's degree is not required

### Work Environment

This is a small, experienced, collaborative office environment with minimal bureaucracy and a strong employee-focused culture. The organization is established and successful, but some accounting processes are still traditional and paper-based.

The ideal person will be comfortable working within an established environment while diplomatically introducing improvements where they make sense.

**Schedule:** Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
**Hybrid:** Typically 1–2 days per week in the Bethesda office, by mutual agreement
