Job Description

The Production Supervisor leads a high-volume manufacturing team in an electric vehicle components facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role manages daily operations on the shop floor, drives performance in safety, quality, productivity, and cost, and builds strong, engaged teams that consistently meet production schedules and business objectives in a fast-paced, unionized environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage daily manufacturing operations for EV-related production, adjusting plans and resources as needed to meet changing demands.
• Drive performance in safety, quality, productivity, cost, and ergonomics, maintaining a strong focus on SPQRCE metrics.
• Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate hourly team members, typically overseeing teams of 20 or more employees.
• Build and sustain high-performing teams by motivating employees, reinforcing standardized work methods, and promoting accountability.
• Ensure all team members receive adequate Job Instruction Training (JIT) and consistently apply standardized work processes.
• Coach, counsel, and mentor other group leaders to strengthen leadership capability across the production organization.
• Lead and support Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes or similar operating systems, ensuring adherence to established manufacturing standards.
• Serve as a resource for launch and pilot activities, supporting new product introductions and process changes in the EV production environment.
• Meet or exceed production schedules, cost targets, and quality objectives while maintaining on-time delivery commitments.
• Apply lean and synchronous manufacturing principles to reduce variation, improve flow, and eliminate waste in production processes.
• Implement systems and corrective actions that prevent recurrence of known issues, focusing on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• Maintain awareness of quality standards and expectations, and ensure all processes meet required quality specifications and built-in quality initiatives.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices, including safety, ergonomics, and housekeeping, and maintain a clean, organized, hazard-free workplace.
• Understand and consistently administer National and Local UAW Agreements, supporting a respectful, compliant, and collaborative work environment.
• Ensure effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
• Support continuous improvement in material flow and supply chain efficiency, collaborating with production, quality, and materials teams.
• Oversee production and quality inspections, troubleshoot operational issues, and implement timely corrective actions to maintain performance.
• Manage change and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment, communicating clearly with teams and adapting plans as conditions evolve.
• Maintain accurate timekeeping and workforce utilization practices in alignment with facility policies and systems.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience leading teams in a manufacturing, production, or supply chain environment, typically supervising at least 20 employees, with a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, train, develop, and evaluate hourly employees in a high-volume production setting.
• Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and variation reduction techniques.
• Experience meeting production schedules, cost targets, and quality requirements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to promote and enforce safe work practices, including safety, ergonomics, and housekeeping standards.
• Proficiency with basic computer skills, including email, word processing, and typing.
• Willingness and availability to work rotating shifts and weekends in a 24/7 operation.
• Proven supervision and leadership capabilities in production, quality, or materials/supply chain functions.
• Experience with process improvement, quality control, and project scheduling in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot operational issues and implement effective corrective actions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage performance, resolve conflicts, and drive accountability within unionized teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree is highly valued and may be required for certain advancement opportunities.
• Experience working in a unionized environment, including familiarity with UAW agreements, is ideal but not required.
• Familiarity with Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) or similar manufacturing operating systems.
• Prior experience supporting launch or pilot production activities, particularly in new product or process introductions.
• Experience in automotive manufacturing or other high-volume, precision production environments.
• Exposure to built-in quality initiatives and methodologies such as DFSS or Red X, including related certifications.
• Knowledge of timekeeping systems and workforce scheduling in a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
• Leadership development experience, including coaching and mentoring other leaders.
• Safety-focused manufacturing environments with strict adherence to quality and cost targets.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large components facility specializing in heat transfer components such as radiators, condensers, and heater cores, with expanding production of electric motor components (stator modules) for an advanced EV platform. The plant operates as a fast-paced, high-volume, unionized manufacturing environment focused on precision engine and EV component production, continuous improvement, strict safety standards, and on-time delivery to quality and cost targets. The facility runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and team members must be open to working all shifts and regular weekends. Shifts include 1st (approximately 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.), 2nd (approximately 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.), and 3rd (approximately 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.), with one schedule rotating weekly between 1st and 2nd shifts and another schedule dedicated to permanent 3rd shift. Employees are expected to arrive about 30 minutes before shift start and may work 6–7 days per week with significant overtime opportunities. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety, ergonomics, housekeeping, and built-in quality practices, supported by modern manufacturing systems and equipment aligned with global automotive standards.

This is a Contract position based out of Lockport, NY.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
