Senior Vendor Integrity Investigator

The New York City Department of Investigation ("DOI") is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country; its mission is to combat municipal corruption. DOI serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, city agencies, and city employees, vendors with city contracts, individuals and entities that receive city funds. Duties and Responsibilities Reviewing integrity monitorship reports; reviewing and processing detailed invoices submitted by integrity monitors; reviewing complaints received by the unit, inputting complaint information into DOI's case management system, and drafting dispositions or referrals as needed. Drafting and editing reports and referrals regarding investigative findings from DOI's various monitorships. Attending meetings with integrity monitors, outside agencies, and attorneys representing city vendors, preparing notes or summaries of the meetings as needed, and coordinating with supervisors to facilitate follow‑through on open items from any such meetings. Performing data searches for various companies and individuals using various law enforcement and open‑source databases, including Accurint and PASSPort, to conduct background vetting and reporting on such searches. Assisting the Vendex Unit as needed in completing vendor name check (VNC) requests by utilizing the PASSPort database and conducting full research of all the subject firms, principals, and affiliates utilizing DOI's case management systems. Assisting with other special projects, investigations, examinations, reviews and policy development related to the Unit's Integrity Monitor Program as assigned by the Inspector General and/or Director of Vendor Integrity. Providing training and guidance to staff on research, reporting, and compliance best practices. If selected, the candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation. Because the position has a law enforcement and/or investigative function, the candidate's consumer credit history will be reviewed during the background investigation, as permitted by NYC Administrative Code 8‑107(24)(b)(2)(A). Minimum Qualifications A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full‑time experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Preferred Skills Prior work experience in any of the following fields: investigation, law enforcement, criminal justice, and/or security. Knowledge of the construction industry and OSHA regulations a significant plus. Demonstrated ability to analyze and assess and draw conclusions based on a multitude of complex documents and data. Highly analytical thinker with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Excel, and other investigative databases. Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and organized reports. Strong interpersonal skills, verbal communication, and interviewing skills. Experience with New York City government operations, policies and procedures and the agencies of the City of New York. Highest professional and ethical standards. Familiarity with New York City a plus. Candidate must possess a valid New York State Driver's License. Additional Information Residency Requirement: New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, city employees in certain titles who have worked for the city for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
