PRN Ultrasound Technologist

Job Overview Your job is more than a job. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing all diagnostic procedures related to ultrasound. Provides clinical services according to radiology/imaging practice standards. Demonstrates skills and knowledge in use of all ultrasound equipment and performance of all protocols and procedures. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing high quality exams within the appropriate length of time for procedure. Provides educational presentations to physicians and technical staff. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Provide clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. Perform complex technical aspects of diagnostic ultrasound and produce high quality images of internal organs. Observe and monitor patient's vital signs and monitor medical equipment attached to the patient during the procedure. Review physician orders with the radiologist to ensure proper examination and diagnostic results. Demonstrate a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS. Administer sound patient care practices: communicate effectively with patient to obtain clinical history and informed consent, explain procedure, answer questions to ease anxiety and assure cooperation. Maintain equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition. Inspect suite, equipment, and accessories daily for hazards, troubleshoot malfunctions, monitor stock supplies, clean and disinfect equipment. Maintain quality control checks in accordance with policy: maintain proper sterile technique and aseptic procedures; adhere to body substance isolation policy. Complete ancillary tasks to ensure efficient operations: record requisition information accurately, perform routine clerical duties, input and verify data in PACS/RIS. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or equivalent (including training from United States Armed Forces). Licensed as a Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (American Heart Association). Registered with: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of medical laboratory testing techniques, standard phlebotomy, skin puncture, proper blood processing and handling procedures. Ability to perform routine medical laboratory tests, procedures and analysis. Ability to accurately complete and maintain patient documents and records. Ability to understand and follow specific clinical protocol and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Reporting Relationships Does not formally supervise employees. Physical Demands Heavy physical requirements (50–100 lbs occasionally; 25–50 lbs frequently; 10–20 lbs constantly). Frequent sitting, standing, walking (36–66% of day). Occasional lifting of objects up to 100+ lbs, occasional carrying, push/pull and twisting frequently. Continuous wrist deviation, continuous keyboard use, continuous talking or hearing.
